Formula and a 14 Month Old

My son who is now 14 months old is having such a hard time with milk products. He has been off of these now for a little over a month and has been on soy milk. With the change we have not seen any progress in his symptoms. I am really thinking about putting him back on formula. We did not have this problem when he was on it and he ate cheese and yogurt with no problems. Has anyone else kept their children on formula past one year? My friend has per recommendation from her doctor but, I have never heard of this before.
Thank you for your thoughts!

my daughter is about 13 months old now and we are still giving her similac go and grow formula because it has a lot of vitamins and minerals that milk alone lacks. I don't honestly think that keeping your son on formula for a little longer is a bad thing.

Both my kids were lactose intolerant, and unfortunately my son is also allergic to soy. He is currently 15 months old. We transitioned him over when he was 13 months, and I went through a time period of trying different types of milk and we finally found one that he likes, and digests pretty well. Maybe it can help you, it's called Dairy Ease and they have whole milk and even a low fat milk, and it's lactose free. I've only found it sold at Walmart. Good luck and let me know how it works for you.

My son is 15 mo. and is still on formula, his Dr. said to keep him on it. He is going to see a G.I. Dr. in Nov. I don't see any harm in keeping them on formula untill they are ready for milk . I would ask your Dr. about this. What problems is your son having when he in on milk ? Good Luck

My daughter cannot drink regular milk either. I have tried several times to try it but she always throws up. She is on soy milk. Cheese and yogurt are processed differently so they have different enzymes that they can tollerate. I have soem friends that won't give their kids cows milk at all because of all the hormones in it. Kids can get all the calcium they need from veggies, cheese and yogurt. They really don't need milk. That is what my doctor says. There is not enough fat in formula for a child over 1 year old so I don't know why any doctor would recommend it. We alternate soy milk and rice drink for my daughter. Although I hear that soy productsa aren't that great eother. I also give my child a multi-vitamin everyday.

Hi S.,

I tried to transition my daughter to Organic milk when she turned a year and it was a miserable experience for her. She’s always suffered from constipation but it was horrible on the milk. She was totally not herself, acting sick and lethargic and even threw up a couple of times. I’ve read so many negatives regarding soy that I refused to give it to her. I purchase oat based toddler formula from Wild Oats and mix 8 oz. of it with 8 oz. of PediaSure. It’s not cheap but my daughter’s health and well being are more important than pinching pennies where she is concerned. She still suffers from constipation every now and then so I add a tablespoon of MiraLAx to cup every morning.

Good Luck!

My oldest daughter did something like that for awhile when she was around 2 or 3. We took her off milk and put her on soy milk, then when she started pre-k she was drinking milk at school and did ok, so my Dr. had us start her on organic milk and she has been fine ever since. She can take in regular milk in smaller intervals and be ok, but too much will cause her stomach problems. My dr. said it might be a reaction to something in the milk, the hormones, antibiotics, or the processing agents. Regular milk is so bad for us, escpecailly our kids! Organics has been the way for us!
