Not a lot you can do with a cold below the age of 6. Try a humidifier and Vicks (they make a gentle baby formula).
This is in reference to trying to figure out medicine to give my one-year-old daughter who cannot seem to stop coughing and the doctor recommends honey- it's doing absolutely nothing and I don't know what to do..I need help any suggestions from any moms ? anything?

honey's great, but it's no more of a cure-all than anything else. sometimes a sick baby just has to work through it, just like everyone else.
keep her warm, well-hydrated, as comfortable as the poor little gal can get, and resist the temptation to over-medicate her.

Make sure you are running a humidifier in all the rooms she's in most often. Otherwise, there is not much. You can't give a child that young cough medicine.
ETA: I'm assuming a lingering cough caused by a cold. If it's croup, then take her back to a dr for a steroid. If it's allergies/postnasal drip, then talk to the dr about an antihistamine. But, your dr should diagnose these conditions before you give meds for them.
Sometimes coughing just takes a really long time to go away. Many many times my kids have gotten bad coughs that seem to last forever and drive us all nuts. Then suddenly the cough is gone. Make sure she is getting plenty of sleep and fluids. A little chamomile tea with honey and lemon might be soothing. Using a humidifier might be helpful...the steam is supposed to help. But really you just have to give it time.
Coughing is just an unfortunate part of being sick, like sneezing and runny nose or vomiting/diarrhea. You can't do much about it other than to try and make her comfortable. Sleeping propped up a bit might help. Hot tea with honey and lemon can be soothing, at least temporarily but I don't know if your daughter would like that at her age.
Beyond that just plenty of cuddles, love, fluids and rest until she gets better poor thing :-(
I had a nurse recommend honey for me about three weeks ago. It did nothing for me. I've never tried it, but I've had several people tell me that Vicks vapor rub on the bottom of the feet will work. One of my friends was told by their doctor to try it when her daughter had croup. She said it worked to lessen the cough. Before bed put Vapor Rub on the bottom of her feet and then put socks on. I have a hard time believing it would work, but it wouldn't hurt to try.
i agree with mynewnickname, boy is that amouthfull, but with a few other suggestions. gripe water works well and can be paired with camomille tea at night, with or without honeyand lemon, or in the bath. check to see if she is allergic first by rubbing it on the inside of the knee or elbow, and make it pretty weak. also, direct contact with vicks adult or baby rub is not completel nessesary. they make a plug in. if you do use the rub though, you can cut it with vaseline to make it less potent and easier on the skin.
Hi, I've read a lot about edelberry syrup. I bought some and be to my 10 month old son when he had a runny nose. It never developed to anything further so I'm not sure if that helped or not but it has many other natural benefits.
