Forehead Knot

Mt 3 year old woke up this morning with a large knot on her head, and it had grown by the end of the day. She's fine, but I'm trying to figure out a timeframe when it could have happened. She had a babysitter after dinner last night who said she did not fall down or get hurt while she was there, and I didn't see the bump until the morning. I don't recall any bad falls during the day either. How long could a knot take to appear and when could she have hurt herself?

What can I do next?

My guess is that it is a bug bite.

If it is bothering her - itching - my money is on a bug bite.

Most likely happened in her sleep. Knots are almost instant, that's why I think it was done while she was sleeping, as someone who has done that with little to no memory of it....it's very possible.

On Sunday morning we noticed my 18 month old's eye was a little red and swollen. It wasn't until Tuesday that he looked like he went 12 rounds. When my daughter was 15 months and hit her head on a table, she didn't even flinch, but it swelled up and bruised in seconds. It's different with each child. I've come to accept that I will never know where all the bumps and bruises come from. As long as she is acting fine, I wouldn't worry to much.

I gave myself a black eye when I was a kid, trying to crawl to the end of my bed, and ran into the footboard. I got up for breakfast the next morning and freaked everyone out. Lol. (It was quite the shiner!)

She probably bonked her head while she was sleeping.

oh, those things are so scary, aren't they? my younger seemed to sprout one every other week!
if you have a trustworthy babysitter, it's probably just one of those things. 3 year olds bonk themselves a lot, don't they?

Is there a bruise? Does it hurt when you examine it? Is there any change in her behavior or focus?

If not, don't worry. These things happen and are often a mystery that is never solved.

Add: My daughter had something like this show up when she was very young. Turned out her skull plates hadn't fused yet and she developed a small 'leak' that allowed some of the fluid around the brain to move to just under the skin. It was completely harmless but did freak me out for a few days.

Maybe she hit the wall or the bedframe? One of my kids ran into the TV and hit his. He had a goose egg and freaked me out! It took a while to go down, I recall.
