We were just notified for the second time that the Kansas representatives in Topeka are considering cutting the early education budget, which would immediately effect the Parents as Teachers (PAT) program in Kansas. Last week, we had the same request from our PAT representative to write our congressmen to ask them not to vote this through. It worked last week and the bill failed. A new bill was started this week that would also affect the funding. If you love Parents As Teachers as much as we do, please write your congressmen to tell them to protect the program and vote out any funding cuts for this program. Go to http://ga3.org/campaign/house_cif_letter/86ndw882yjjww8we? for more info.

Thanks!

Wow jodie, those were some harsh comments you said about Kristie! I agree completely with Kristie. How in the world did our parents raise us with out all this help from the gov't?! I think they survived just fine and kids turned out ok!

The funding for this should be cut. It is not the responsibility of the tax payers to be paying for what parents ought to be teaching their kids at home! I don't understand why so many parents nowdays leave it up to others to teach their kids things that parents should be teaching them!

Hi M.,

I do not agree at all with Kristie's comment:

It is not the responsibility of the tax payers to be paying for what parents ought to be teaching their kids at home! I don't understand why so many parents nowdays leave it up to others to teach their kids things that parents should be teaching them!

The idea of this program is to give parents, and first-time parents at that, access to programs they can get their children involved in, and help them teach their kids...hence the name Parents as Teachers. Maybe Kristie is a genius and knows exactly what children need for all stages of development...congrats to her. Most first-time parents want to be sure that their children are getting all they need, and this program can provide great assistance for that.

So don't worry, we will be writiing to ask our congressmen to not cut funding!

I had a bad experience with my Parents As Teachers so I am not a big fan at all. With all the money problems though with the state is having I believe the money could be used elsewhere better. There are going to have to be cuts somewhere.
