I would stop with the cereal. Give it a couple of weeks. Or months for that matter. 4 months is pretty early to start a baby on cereal especially if he is breast fed. The normal recomendation is 6 months. I would also talk to his Doctor.
My son just turned 4 months and I started giving him rice cereal. He has craddle cap which is really itchy and because of the way he rubs it, it spreads to his forehead. My question is, after we started the cereal he started rubbing his eyes quite a bit more.I stopped giving it to him a couple days ago and it cleared up. Is this a reaction to the cereal. Should I wait a couple more weeks to start it again. I am so confused. Should I try a different cereal or just go to baby good. Please help me someone!!

My son is the same age and has craddle cap too!! We just started him on cereal too. He doesn't have a reaction like that but he seems to not care for it all that much. I would just wait a month or so and try it agian. Or else try an organic type of the rice cereal. Oh and for the craddle cap I found that works the best is the body wash that I get through my company that I work for and the lotion they affer. Also you can try breast milk if you are breast feeding. That works too. If you would like more info about the lotion and stuff just let me know. My son and I are allergic to some stuff and these prducts work wonders! I hope you get everything figured out though and trust me I am as confused as you are about the babyfood thing?! I am goign to do all organic or homemade, that way you know what's in it!! F.
I'd wait a little while and try it again. Your son may just have pollen allergies and that was why he was rubbing his eyes. It won't hurt him to wait a little to begin solids.
Good Luck!!!!
I would wait a couple of moths before starting cereal. 4 months is to young. Food allergies start when we give them food to early.

Babies shouldn't be given solids until they are 6 months old. Starting before this can cause food allergies which it sounds like is happening. So get him off the solids and within a few days you should see improvement. A baby doesn't need anything but mommy's milk or formula for the first 6 months. There is no benefit to trying to feed them cereal at 4 months.
I agree that four months is very early to start them on cereal. Stick with formula/breastmilk for at least another 2 months and then give it a try again. As for the cradle cap - take baby oil and coat his sweet little head. Put the little hat he got on the hospital on him so that his head has a chance to soak in a little oil. After 30 minutes or so, give him a bath and use the brush that they gave you in the hospital to wash his hair with. Really scrub. The cradle cap should disappear within 2-3 baths. Good luck and let us know how everything turns out!

THey can ave reactions to rice cereal, however I doubt that cradle cap is one of those reactions. Cradle cap is normal, and most, if not all, babies seem to get it. All 3 of mine did. They also all went bald with it, then it just cleared up on it's own and went away and the hair grew back. It will sometimes spread to the face, but probably nothing to worry about, as it doesn't seem to actually "itch" for them. I had the worst time trying not to "peel it" for them- I know that sounds gross, but just brush it regularly and put oil or lotion on it.
Oh, and 4 months is WAY too young to start on ANY foods other than milk. Their digestive system isnot ready for at least 2-3 more months.
My six month old son has been having lots of reactions to rice cereal as far as getting an upset tummy, etc. I googled "rice cereal allergies" or something to that affect, and I found that there are lots of babies that can't handle rice cereal. I talked to my dr. and she said babies need the cereal for iron, but it isn't going to help him if he throws up for two hours ever time he eats it! So we tried oatmeal baby cereal and he gagged on it too. On some of the websites I found, it said that some doctors are recommending starting on easier to digest foods first, like sweet potatoes and bananas. So that is what we are currently doing. Our son is eating basically all of the first foods, and as soon as he gets through all the ones I bought, he will start on second foods. Of course, it is best to get your doctor's opinion. My baby didn't have the cradle cap problem with rice cereal. Hope that helps. :-)
