Did anyone see the press conference or news coverage about this today? I'm interested in purchasing the plates but didn't get any info on that? I've looked all over the USDA's website (www.choosemyplate.gov) but no luck.

Did anyone hear anything further about this?

I was under the impression that the plate is just a graphic to demonstrate what relative healthy portions sizes mixes of foods look like, not that there are literal plates available. I could be wrong on that though!

If you want to make plates for your family, you could use clear melamine or glass plates and paint the undersides with a glass or plastic paint, or paint a ceramic plate using food-safe porcelain paint.

My daughter brought a plate home from school this year. Maybe a WIC office would have one?

Places like Michaels or AC Moore or some sort of arts & crafts place, have kits for making plates also. You draw the graphic on a piece of special paper, send it in and you get a plate back. It costs about $10 I think. Haven't looked recently.

I wish I hadn't thrown out my catalog that had these plates! Maybe Google 'school nurse' supplies and you'll find a catalog where you can get it. I was at the Illinois School Health conference and one of the vendors had the plate - it looked really cool! Of course I told myself I'd buy one from the catalog and now I guess I've thrown it away.

I think it's just a "symbol". You could paint one yourself to have at home as a reminder. http://www.choosemyplate.gov/

I saw the news segment which students where using actual plates. I'd like to find the plates too!

I'll take MR's suggestion and look for school nurse supplies. There is nothing on amazon but maybe in the next few months it will be more available as people express an interest.
