Ok well I thought this was a stomache virus but I have found out that I have food posioning from some meatloaf that apparently wasnt done all the way...even though it looked perfectly fine. I havent seen a doctor yet, but I was wondering if anyone could let me know if I SHOULD see someone or if it would go away on its own. As of Saturday/Sunday night at 2 am I started having very painful stomache cramps/spasms and sat morning I awoke to a light fever 99.0 a headache, numb lips and legs, vomiting, and diarreah. Unforantely I had to take care of my 4 yr old and 11 month old due to my husbands job not letting him come home...when he did get home around 5pm I took a goody powder...I didnt have any medicine or no way to get any until he come home.By that time my fever was 102.4 and a few hours after taking the medicine I started to swaet the fever off. I still have the nasuea and the very very painful stomache cramps and dirreah..I read that it should clear up on its own...but how long should I tuff it out before seeing a doctor?

What can I do next?

Absolutely go to your doctor. You could very likely be infected with e-coli bacteria and this is can be very serious. Go to the doctor right away and be sure to tell them you ate undercooked beef.

hey- so sorry you are sick. I have had food poisoning from eating several times. It takes about 45 minutes to kick in, after you eat the "bad" food. I don't recall the fever but had diahrea, vomiting and dry heaves and felt horrible for several days. It is not a good experience. I have never gone to the doctor, they can only pump your stomach. if you didn't ingest anything poisonous, you will be fine. I hate it that you had to take care of the children too. It'll taper off soon. Follow the doctor's advice for tummy troubles of BRAT, bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. Good luck. :-)

Hi C.!
I am so sorry you are sick and that you had to just tught it up yesterday with no help...at the very least I would call the doctor NOW and explain the situation, they say that your system would clear out the food ailments that made you sick, but I in your case I would definately try to make it to see him if possible, after all it was due to uncooked meat and you have been having fever.I really hope you feel better soon,so go call the doctor now!

Take care of yourself!

NO WAY Chickie! This sounds very bad!

I could be wrong of course, Im not a doctor, but I'd go to the emergency room if I were you. In the case that i AM wrong, and this will pas son its own, be sure you drink plenty of fluids because dehidration can sneak up on you at any moment and that CAN be fatal.
Look to see if:
1. the color under your nails are white rather than a pinkish tint
2.when you punch the skin on your arm and let go, if it stays pinched.
3. eyes are dialated
4.not sweating from your fever.
Good luck!!!

You need to see a doctor NOW!! After Thanksgiving I thought I had food poisoning and saw my doctor the next day. My doctor also diagnosed food poisoning, but thank goodness he wanted to completely rule out appendicitis and sent me to the hospital for a catscan.

My appendix hadn't burst yet but was just about to, according to the surgeon. I spent 2 more days in the hospital and then a long 8 week recovery (it was longer than my 2 previous C-section recoveries!!)

So yes, please go see your doctor if you haven't yet.

WIth the fever sounds more like a virus. Sounds familiar though. It passed through our house a couple weeks ago - not fun. I'd say if your fever doesn't break with medicine go to the doctor. Other than that plenty of liquids.

Ummm... I think you should see a doc if you haven't already... Last time I tried to tough it out with what I thought was the flu I ended up in the ER and found out I had E Coli Blood poisoning and was admitted to the hospital for over a week when my son was only 6 weeks old, something no one should have to do, so see a doc. Better safe than sorry.

Hi C.!
I am an Infectious Diseases Nurse and would recommend that you go ahead and call your doctor for an antibiotic, especially with a fever that high and severe abdominal cramping. This sounds really gross, but you especially need immediate medical attention if you see any blood or pus (white streaks)in your bowel movements. The good news is you will usually see relief within 12 to 24 hours of starting the antibiotic. (Cipro is the first line drug of choice for these type of illnesses.)

Good luck, and make sure to drink LOTS of fluids!

Sincerely,
A. S., RN

The call is yours, but when measures are taken to rid the body of the toxic symptoms you will recover much quicker. Prescription for Nutritional Healing lists Activated Charcoal for this purpose, 5 tablets at first signs and again 6 hrs. later. TAke seperately from other meds. and supplements. A friend of mine has lived in numerous other countries and the first time she and her family had food poisoning the dr. sent them home with Activated Charcoal. She said that is all they did for it from then on. However, GArlic caps are a powerful detoxifier that also destroys bacteria in the colon. Potassium restores electrolytes. I'm sure you could probably find a slew of info on line also. But whether or not to go to the dr. will be your call. Hope that helps and you recover quickly. : )

okay, not to send you into a panic or anything, but I had food poisioning a few weeks ago and went to the dr after only a few hours and was sent to the hospital long before what you've been through. The dr at the women's hospital and pregnancy ward, said he's seen women actually end up hurting their baby's development by trying to tough out something like food poisioning, and that he was very glad I had come in. Plus, Goodies Headache powder, for me anyway, is on the list of "do NOT take this it Will hurt the baby"

You may be through the worst of it, but at this point, I would go to the dr just to make sure the baby is okay.

I don't know what type of insurance you have but I've always been of the opinion that my $15 co-op buys a lot of peace of mind. Since you are the main care taker for your children, you can't afford to be sick any longer than necessary.

Good luck!
