There are actually a couple of food banks in Denton. And if you are looking for volunteer opportunities, contact the United Way of Denton County. They always have a long list of organizations that are looking for volunteers.
Does anyone know if there's a food bank in Denton? I homeschool my kids and am looking for ways to teach them to help others and learn at the same time.

Yes, the Denton Community Food Center. Check dentoncfc.org.
Yes, there is the Shepherd's hand on 377, a small white building (kind of behind what was the wrestling place and now it is a church I think). We donate there and I have another homeschool friend who helps in the warehouse area sorting food, clothes, etc.
Also, the big brick Presby church off McKinney across from Cross Timbers community Church in Denton serves lunch every day. I think your kiddos have to be over 12 to help though.
For needs that surpass food, the Denton Friends of the Family center for abused women and families has a tremendous need for personal hygiene items, shampoo, conditioner, Gold Bond powder, lotions, soaps, bath gels, maxi-pads, toothbrushes, toothpaste. They also collect used cell phones and repurpose them as "emergency 911" phones for those people in abusive situations. The Lion's Clulb collects used eyeglasses that they then repurpose to assist people of low income that need but cannot afford eyeglasses. The Denton Animal Rescue Shelter also seeks donations of dog/cat food, litter, bedding and volunteers to assist with caring for the animals at the shelter. There are many ways to get involved in your neighborhood volunteer centers, both hands on and in the form of donations. I applaud you on teaching your children the gift of sharing and caring for others less fortunate. Thank you for your effort.
