What is a safe and toxic free way to keep flys from entering an open door? My sister, tonya, uses a zip-lock bag full of water?

What can I do next?

don't know how to keep them out, but we have a spray bottle filled with water and a drop of dishwashing liquid that we use to squirt the flies that get it - they can't fly after they've been hit with the soapy water so then we can just wipe and dispose of them

I haven't figured out a way to keep them out so we just use screen doors. The air comes in, the flies stay out.

I have seen dryer sheets pinned above doorways for flies and bees!

You could try that sticky fly paper but it gets to looking pretty ugly once some flies become attached. the best solution, of course, is a screen door. What does a baggie of water do? Very curious because I don't have a screen door for my sliding glass door to the backyard and flies are a huge problem in the summer. I have used those bag-type things you buy at the hardward store where you fill it with some sort of solution and hang it up. It attracts the flies and once they fly into the bag, they can't get out. I don't know if it's "green" though but it does work great.
