Flying with Seven Month Old

I am looking for any suggestions / tips in flying with a seven month old. Next month we will be flying to CA to visit family and I'm wondering if there are any tips I need to know in both dealing with the airlines (I'm a veteran flyer for business) and keeping him happy for the 4 1/2 hour flight. He has his own seat and we will be taking his car seat with us on the plane.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi J.,
When I flew with my daughter when she was an infant the best advivce I was given was try to have her suck on a bottle or something during takeoff. This will keep there ears from clogging. Since my daughter was breastfed for 16 months it was kind of hard to get her to suck a bottle but if you child does that is great. It really works. Hope that helps, hope you have a relaxing flight.

The baby having his own seat may be a waste, more than likely he will be on your lap the whole time. Make sure you are nursing or giving him a bottle during take off and landing, this will help with the pressure on his ears. The first time I took my son on a plane I ran out and bought a portable dvd player, it really helped keep him entertained. Have a safe trip.

we took our 11 month old to sandiego last year
take stroller to gate so it won't be destroyed by checking it in put him by the window, have new toys he has never seen before only bring them out one at a time sparingly, it you have a laptop for dvd player that helps, brings snack, anything like juiced water throw some ice cubes in them, tiny books,

We started flying with our daughter when she was 3 months old. Security is a pain as everything needs to go through (travel with as few bags as possible as you are also going to have to worry about the car seat and the stroller). The airlines don't normally have us board early and that's OK. As I've always had another adult with me, I leave my daughter with them and board when my row is called so I can put the car seat in (and this way there is less time for my daughter on the plane). They follow up, normally near last call. You are required to put the car seat in the window as an FYI. And while I know it's easier in a car to lengthen the strap with the buckel ("female" piece), it makes things on the airplane harder. Thread the "male" piece through the back and attached to the "female" piece rather than the other way around. We delay naps before getting on the plane and generally give my daughter a bottle as we're taking off. She's normally asleep within a half hour. Best of luck.
