We are flying next week with our 16 month old- the flight is 4.5 hours. Does anyone have any tips on flying with a toddler? He is very active and all over the place!!!! We will have an iPad, so any apps you think he might enjoy we would love to know. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

What can I do next?

Hi.
We flew across the ocean with an almost 2 year old last year...
1. bring a pillow case and blanket from home to let the plane feel more comfortable -- as well as a comfort object.
2. bring crayons and paper.
3. Dry snacks -- cereal, raisins....(We were 'open' to letting our LO eat what he wanted to keep him happy during the ride).

4. do try to get fresh air before the flite and/or exercise before/after...
5. airport stickers....

Have fun.

How long is the flight?

iPad is a good idea but I would also buy SEVERAL (non-noisy) toys he has never seen before so when he gets antsy you can pull them out.

Bring plenty of his favorite snacks.

I am guessing you will not be purchasing an extra seat for him to sit in w/his car seat so you'll have to hold him, correct? A good idea is to walk down the aisle a few times w/him when they turn the "stay seated" light off.

Bring his favorite blanket. Cabins get a little cold.

Be prepared for cabin pressure changes. It hurts their ears. Ask your ped in advance what you can do.

Let him get plenty of his "active, all over the place" self out while you are waiting to board.

Have a fun, safe trip.

I pack a small suitcase for my daughter that fits under the seat in front of her. I bring a coloring book with crayons (I recommend Crayola wonders for a toddler, less mess). A DVD player (now she brings her iPod), snacks, small pillow and small blanket and most important her favorite stuffed animal. I did not use headphones when she was young because she wouldn’t leave them in, but it is hard to hear music or a movie without them.

I would get her settled into her seat with her pillow, blanket and animal and she would fall asleep with the sound of the engines.

Everyone will be more comfortable if he has his own seat.

We flew with our daughter around age 2 for 9 hrs and she was fine. She is 17 now but I had toys and things to keep her quiet so she would not bother other passengers. We used to make puppets with the air sick bags.

Have a great trip!
