My three year old son has been on Flovent for about 2 months which has been a blessing. We haven't had a cough-filled night since then. He's more well rested and able to breath better. I was reistent to daily meds but feel it's been helpful. However, I have noticed an increase in behavior over the fall. Not sure the two are related, Just wanted to see what others' experiences have been. Thanks.

What can I do next?

My question is:
Does your son have Asthma?
How LONG, has the Doctor said that your son had to take this?
The reason is, a person should not be on it "forever" or for longer than instructed.
It is a Corticosteroid. ie: steroid.
It help to reduce inflammation.
It is used to prevent an Asthma attack. Not stop one that has already begun.

I have Asthma. I have used Flovent before. I had no side effects.
I think your son is simply having age-phase related behavior.
3 is a hard, age.
So is 4 years old.

Hi K., both of my sons were put on Flovent quite early too, but I don't know if their increased behavior was due to that or not, being that they're boys and were at that age when their independence starts revealing itself. I did read an article of a doctor doing a study on increased behavior when kids were having an asthma attack, and I can attest to that. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that the Flovent and behavior are linked. What time of day do you give him the puffs? We switched from morning to bedtime, simply because it was easier to remember. Maybe giving it at night will give the medicine more time to absorb into the body. For us, the Flovent has also be successful, so any increase in behavior was worth putting up with. You might have to work a little harder on getting your son to monitor his behavior as time goes by, but I think it's hard to say if the two are directly related. Good luck and that's great he's doing better!

I've given flovent to my daughter for breathing treatments when she gets bronchitis but not for extended periods of time. I do notice that after a dose of the stuff she tends to bounce off the walls for a while. Her doc warned me that it could wind her up a bit.

I am not sure what type of behavior you are experiencing, but yes flovent can have an effect on some people it is a steroid...steroids do make it hard for some people to sit still. However, it could also be that he just has more energy now that he is able to sleep all night and not work so hard to breathe in general.
If you are concerned about it give his doctor a call and run it by someone in the office...I'm sure they would be able give you any side effects that may happen.

We had no behavior changes, but massive insomnia (think 4am-6am before "bedtime", most nights, for 9 months). Shudder.
