Florida Bed and Breakfast

My husband gave me a stay at the bed and breakfast of my choice for mother's day, and I'm having trouble finding a good one. We live in Land O Lakes, and I would prefer to stay within a 3 hour drive. We will not be taking our baby. A travel agent suggested one in Sarasota and one on Anna Maria Island, but we both grew up in the Sarasota/Bradenton area, and we don't really want to go there for a vacation. Something near a river or a lake might be nice, so that we can maybe kayak during the day, and I wouldn't mind near a beach either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

I second the recommendation for St. Augustine. My husband took me there for our anniversary a couple years ago and we had a great time. It was great because almost everything is within walking distance, which makes it that much more romantic at night. Some nice sightseeing, romantic horse and buggy rides at night as well as some nightlife and fantastic dining. We stayed at The Augustin Inn. It was wonderful. The breakfast was great and they had a beautiful farmers porch that you could sit on and eat in the morning. The rooms were nice, we had a nice corner jacuzzi in ours. I think it was the Imperial Room. Their rates are very reasonable as well. Here is their website:

We stayed in a great one in St Petersburg, Inn at the Bay. It's within walking distance of the waterfront/downtown area, lots of restaurants nearby. I'm not sure how long it would take you to get to the beaches, but there is a lot to do right there. Breakfast was great, and in the evenings they had wine and light snacks. Highly recommend it!

How about St.Augustine? It's the nation's oldest city. I believe Ponce De Leon came to St.Augustine on his mission to discover the Fountain of Youth.

I've never been there (always wanted to go). Many of my friends have been there and had a great time. I know they have TONS of Bed & Breakfasts.

Have fun where ever you go.

A co-worker of mine just returned from St. Augustine and she raved about it. I don't have a name of where she stayed just that she was insistent that everyone should experience it. She said the shopping was great and that it reminded her of an island in the Caribbean. Hope that helps.

Hi! I live in Land O Lakes too, in Connerton. Here is my suggestion: Go to bedandbreakfast.com (I think that is how it is written). It will show you all the FL locations. I would choose High Springs - great kayaking and rafting down the Ichetucknee (sp?) River - a clear view all the way to the sandy bottom - very rustic old FL - really cool. Near Gainesville. Would love to hear what you decide on and how you like it.

My in-laws have one down in Port Charlotte. I don't know if that's too close to Sarasota for you. Anyway, they have a pool and are right on a canal with a boat and stuff. Frankly I'd rather go to St Augustine but if you're interested let me know.
