Yup, we used Florastor for Kids for both of my boys when they were transitioning from breastmilk to formula. We just mixed it in with their bottles - easy peasy. I did not notice any adverse effects at all.
My 6 month old and my 2 year old have a bit of whatever stomach bug seems to be going around. Nothing serious, just some obvious digestive issues. My pediatrician recommended Florastor. Anyone have any experience with this or any other probiotics? I've read positive reviews, but I'd love to hear more feedback.
Thanks!
THANKS everyone!! I went ahead and got some, and just added it to some expressed breastmilk for the baby and put it in the toddler's sippy cup. Neither complained :-) I'm glad to hear that so many people are fans. And yes, my pediatrician is awesome. I love that she's willing to talk alternative treatments even though she's trained in Western medicine...

I used it for my son when he had the stomach bug. It really does help! Just be sure to get the Florastor for kids. Mix with juice and there's no taste to it! Good luck!
Love florastor... Everytime my son gets sick I got get it at the pharmacy and put it in his juice (can't taste it AT ALL)... When he was young I would put it in his bottles... It's a good bacteria for them, especially when there immune system is down from being sick. I highly recommend getting it.
My daughter has to take prophylactic antibiotics (all the time) so we use Florastor for her every day. She's 9 and just swallows the capsules. We have successfully hidden the powder in mashed potatoes. It tastes like yogurt, so you can also hide it in there and get some extra probiotics in that way as well. I believe the kids floraster has artificial stuff in it that may irritate them further- I would break open the adult capsules if it was me...
My 7 month old got put on Florastor while she was on antibiotics and it made a huge difference. In further research, I learned that the probiotics work really well if you get a good quality one.
I have used it on my daughter when she's had stomach issues or even bacterial infections - works very well and no adverse side effects :)
I just want to also say WOW great news that baby doc's are finally recommending probiotics.. We have been taking them for 17+ years now in my house.. No tummy troubles-ever. Thanks you just made my day!
I love Florastor as well. My pediatrician recommended it for my son early on when he was sick and had digestive issues. As he got older, I'd put it in his applesauce : ) I've never used any other kind of probiotics, so I am sorry I can't help you there.
Like another poster mentioned, make sure you get the Florastor Kids.
My pediatrician recommeded it to us as well...I think my daughter was about 1 1/2 at the time. She was taking antibotics, and her immune systems was way down. She even ended up with a horrible diaper rash from yeast infection. We used Florastor (along with a cream for the diaper rash) and it helped greatly! I had never used this before, or even heard about it, but will use again if needed. Good luck.
We use probiotics often. A health food store will usually have a variety (some less expensive than Florastor) I keep Primadolphilus kids chewable tablets on hand and give them to my kids when something is going around or if they having loose stools. Helps every time.
Probiotics are something we all have naturally in our systems at birth so you'd just be replenishing something that is already there and generally depleted through use of antibiotics, diets in yeast/sugar, etc. They're extremely good for you and beneficial if you get a good one. I took one for a long time and never noticed any improvements or effects but when I started on Shaklee, I realized I could handle dairy again suddenly - because it has a triple layer encapsulation - the good stuff is protected through the stomach acid and gets to the lower intestine where it needs to go to do you any good. I couldn't handle dairy for years and then suddenly I could - because the probiotics were really helping me for the first time ever. And you have to be careful with what you buy - so many products are poorly made, incomplete or may even have harmful additivites or contamination. Shaklee does over 80,000 tests on their products annually to ensure their purity, potency and performance and with a 100% money back guarantee, you can't go wrong. www.K.-oneill.myshaklee.com for more info.
WOW! a doctor recommended a probiotic! I am amazed! you must have a good doc! Make sure the probiotic you are taking has 5 billion live cultures in it. other than that he is completely right!
We love good belly juice!
I was told by my pediatrician that Florastor and Florastor kids is the same thing. The kids one is in packets and the adults in capsule. The capsules open up and have the same dosage as the packets. We were recommended to get them for my son a year and a half ago when he had a stomach issue as well.
I have since kept him on a probiotic everyday just to keep him healthy, and (knock on wood) he has not been sick since and he has the healthiest digestive system of any kid I know! I also take a probiotic everyday and it has improved my health and digestion as well. I highly recommend them for just about everyone. We dont take Florastor because it is really expensive. Go to www.vitacost.com and search for a probiotic there. There are tons to choose from, we started with a childrens powder probiotic and now we have an adult powder probiotic that we add to his apple juice (he is almost 3). The label says it is safe for all children at just half the dosage.
My youngest son is only 6 wks, but when he is done breastfeeding I will be adding a probiotic for him as well. For now he can get his from me! ;)
Hope this helps!
