If you are infested you must give them the pill for a couple months and stuff on their backs and then it will be under control. The meds break the lifecycle of the flea which is about every two weeks.

Buy the flea treatment from the vet that drips on the back of the neck, it works great, I have heard of bounce dryer sheets, rubbed on the dog helps prevent but not get rid of them. I would bomb the house if you do not have small children but if you do that would put alot of chemicals in the house. Fleas are annoying not harmful to humans. This treatment from the vet kills on contact so once the flea jumps on the dog it kills them and their eggs, so with in a short time they are all dead. Vaccumn alot, and spray the yard, because as the dog may be treated, but you will keep binging them inon your clothes.

Good Luck.

There is stuff you can put into a hose/canister attachment & spray the yard. Make sure to bomb the house too after the dogs are dipped. Never heard of using Dawn for fleas.

Go to the vet and buy Comfortis..It's a pill you give them once a month and works great. Our dog hasn't had a flea on her since we started using it. Also, you can go to Walmart and buy the big bag of bug/insect killer for your lawn. Make sure it says for fleas. You have to get a spreader and do the entire lawn for it work properly. Also, you need to make sure all the fleas are gone from inside your home at the same time. But get the Comfortis..it's great. I break the pill up and give my dog a little each day for about a week. If I give her the entire pill at once she vomits. The vet told me not to use flea shampoo. They use Dawn there but make sure you rinse it out real well and don't use to much as it can harm the dog if you leave it on too long. We use an Oatmeal shampoo for our dog. That's what the vet told us to use on her.

If they are in your house, or get in there, if you don't want to use chemicals, sprinkle SALT all over your carpets, let it sit for a few days, vacuum, sprinkle more salt, and continue for a week or two.

We had a flea issue and a crawling toddler at the same time, so didn't want to do a fogger or sprays. Read online that the salt thing works. Also - they make 'decoys' for fleas. It's looks like a warm-blooded cat to a flea, but it's really something they jump on and then can't jump out of. I think they drown. Google it. I didn't buy one. Tried making my own but I don't think my lamp was hot enough or it was too bright and scared the fleas away. Who knows.

Good luck. Fleas are annoying to say the least. Control it now as opposed to later, if you can.
