I don't often buy them so maybe i'm missing something. Is there any kind that doesn't have asperteme in it? that stuff gives me a headache and has a bad after taste. we are traveling and I am concerned that the tap water might not taste right, and i'd rather not lug tons of bottled water. any advice??

What can I do next?

They are garbage. You can get a flavored hydrator isotonic sports drink on line (betacarotene, no aspartame or sucralose, none of that chemical stuff) if you want. It doesn't come in packets though - but you can put it in something to take with you - I use a small container to keep it with me. I can give you the info on that if you're interested.

Bottled water is a huge rip-off - much of the time it's from an unregulated source (vs tap water which has regional taste differences but lots of testing and regulation). A lot of bottled water is just municipal water from another part of the country, put into bottles made with fossil fuels and then transported by truck (using more fossil fuels) through HEAT which then breaks down the plastic bottle and allows dangerous stuff to leach into the water. Then the bottles go to the landfill.

Flavored water is a huge marketing gimmick - most of the vitamin waters are just that - sugar, dye, chemical sweeteners and junk we've been convinced is better for us than plain water. It's a way to make more money as people shift from soda to bottled water for "health" reasons. It's contributing to obesity, sweet-cravings and unnecessary expense.

I can't find any. :/ I used to buy it for my DD to get her to drink more during the summer heat, and when I learned about aspartame I looked for an alternative. Couldn't find one in the packets... So I will be watching your replies.

Now, I typically buy a flat of cheap bottled water. Our house tap water tastes funky, so we only drink that when we have no alternative.

I keep several kinds at home and they all have it. My advice is to buy the individual filtered water bottles that way it will filter any tap water you get and taste the same every time.

The only other thing I can think of is to get lemons or limes.

Hawaiian Punch has packets but I'm not sure if they have aspartame.

I think they all have some fake sugar in the,...so no way would I use them. Britain and others make water bottles with built in filters. I know you can get them at Target. We used them for Disney and water tasted great!

I've never seen any. I have the same problem with artificial sweeteners that you do.
Brita has bottles that have filters in them that you can put tap water through. They work pretty well. Maybe try those.

There are a couple of varieties that have stevia instead of aspartame. I think stevia tastes gross, but I know a lot of people who like it better than aspartame. Crystal Light has a brand called Crystal Light Pure that has stevia and SweetLeaf has some flavored drops. If you don't like the stevia, I would suggest bringing one of those plastic limes or lemons from the grocery store full of straight lime or lemon juice. I did that when I was pregnant because I could taste any little mineral or chlorine in tap water or even some bottled water.
