I am looking for a five point harness booster seat. I was hoping not to have to go for the most expensive Britax Frontier, but at the same time want a good safe booster. Any suggestions on boosters you are happy with?

What can I do next?

Britax Frontier will harness from ages 2 and up up to 80lbs, and then becomes a booster seat to 120lbs. its $270.

Graco Nautilus will harness up to 65lbs, and then booster to 100lbs, and is also a no back booster later down the road to 100lbs. Its $150.

Evenflo Generations 65 will harness to 65lbs and the nbooster to 100lbs. Its $99.

Thes are the three i would recommend, they will harness the longest and they will last hte longest, and also make the best booster seats.

The Britax Frontier 85 goes up to 85 pounds as a 5 point harness and then can be used as a booster till 100 pounds (I believe). We just purchased 2 of these seats for our 5 and 3 year olds and LOVE them.

AlbeeBaby.com has them on sale for 20% off and free shipping (and no tax) so they only come to about $223. For us it's worth it. It will be the last seat we will have to buy for our 2 kids. This is our daughters 3rd seat! We could have saved ourselves $150 if we would have just bought a really good one after her infant one! Because a lot of seats only go up to 40# or if they go up to 60#, the child outgrows the height on them.

The new Frontier 85 has a NO thread harness too! It's so nice for when you have to adjust the straps! And my husband installs them in less than 5 minutes! (We did go to the police station about 2 years ago and went through the proper way to install car seat training so now it's super easy!)

I say go with the Frontier 85.

Evenflo Chase is horrible IMO because it doesn't have adequate side protection and it doesn't harness beyond 35lbs. I would vote a Graco Nautilus if you don't want to spend the price of either a Britax Frontier or Radian. I switched my 3 year old from the Evenflo Chase to a GN due to the reason listed above. It's best to keep your child 5pt. harnessed until they can properly and correctly sit in a seat belt 100% of the time and meet the requirements by both weight and height. This generally happens around age 5-6.

The ones most frequently recommended by child passenger safety techs as functioning well both as harnessed seats and boosters are (in alphabetical order)
Britax Frontier (~$279) - harnesses to 80 lbs or about 20" torso height - adjusts very tall as a high back booster and will last until the child fits the seat belt without a booster - see review here http://carseatblog.com/?p=5751

Evenflo Maestro (~$80) - harnesses to 50 lbs. and positions the lap and shoulder belt well in booster mode, but is a relatively short booster so the child will most likely need another booster after outgrowing it (see review here: http://carseatblog.com/?p=5923. The Generations 65 does not position the belt as well as the Maestro - the lap belt tends to ride up too far on the child's abdomen - see review here http://carseatblog.com/?p=1052)

Graco Nautilus (around $175) - harnesses to 65 lbs., can be used as a high back or backless booster

Last I checked, the Cosco High-back booster (especially the Eddi Bauer eddition) and the Evenflo Chace (I think it's Chase, whatever the Evenflo booster is) were highest on the Consumer Reports list. The Britax didn't even make the list.

Graco Nautilus! My 5 1/2 year old still rides in hers harnessed. It converts to a highback booster then a backless booster.

The britax frontier has the highest limits, it harnesses to 85lbs, then serves as a belt-positioning booster to 100lbs. After all of my research and a fatality accident with a britax marathon (uninjured child!), I will always spend the extra money for safety and quality. If you add up the difference in how much longer it will keep your child safe, it's worth it. And there is no price on your child's safety! Albeebaby always has good deals, babies r us has coupons, and eBay often has new in box seats with free shipping.

Graco Nautilus will last you the longest, and you can get it for $150 at Target, walmart and BRU. It harnesses up to 65 lbs, and more importantly the harness straps are one of the highest (18 inches?). My daughters outgrew a lot of seats by height WAY before they even came close to the weight limits. After it switches to a seat belt positioning booster and a backless booster. We have one and I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are happy with our Graco Nautilus. My son is 4.5 y o and over 50 lbs and very comfortable and happy in it. He refused to even sit in the Britax seat for some reason. Sometimes it pays to drag your kid to the store and try things out before buying.
