Hey,
My daughter is now 3 1/2. Just so you know, they do get a 2 year molar. As far as the vitamins go...I started my daughter on the children's vitamins when she decided to not eat a single meal for approximately 2 days. I still try as hard as I can to get her to eat...give her some of her favorites, etc, but she hit a stage where all she did was look at ANY food and say "I'm done". It was impossible to get her to eat anything, if you put it in she puked it out. I mostly went by the back of the vitamin bottle...it started with 2 years and up. As far as the BM goes...hers started pretty early, but it could have to do with his fiber intake...I've had trouble getting her to eat "real" food all along, but if he eats fruits, etc. he may just have plenty of fiber in his system. I hopes this helps.

On the bowel movement issue. Maybe he's getting too much juice in his diet, or too much fruit. This could cause a problem not only in babies and children, but adults as well.

Hi J.-

1. We had issues right when my son turned two with teeth also. I asked the ped and my dentist and they both said that there is one set of molars that come in last (called two year molars). I guess they can be pretty painful. I would definitely ask your ped, though. He/she could tell you best. He should have a 2 year appointment soon anywyas for a checkup.

2. I also started vitamins at 2 (Flinstones chewables) but only because my son does not have the best eating habits so I wanted to make sure he got some additional supplements in addition to his diet. Ask your ped about this also.

3. Depending on how he his feeling and eating, his BM's vary. If he is having teeth issues, that will definitely affect his BM's and make them more runny. Also if he has a cold or has post nasal drip, that will make them runny too.

Hang in there...having a two year old is tough! Mine is 2 1/2 :) These are all good things to ask your ped about, though. All normal questions!! Good luck!

1. one of my kids was late with all her teeth. didn't have any at a year. didn't loose any until she was 7. was still getting molars at 3. my other daughter had wisdom teeth at 17. they're all different.

2. i didn't give my children vitamins. ask your doctor. toddler age is fine. but too much iron is toxic. don't over do anything with iron.

3. how fatty is his diet? how much fiber? both will make mush. if it's like play-doh, that's ok. like mashed potatoes every time? take a sample to his next appointment. like mayonnaise every time for months? make an appointment. does he have a lot of mucus (cough, runny nose) for more than a few months, all the time?

then again, my one daughter, whenever she was teething, had mushy BMs.

if he's still in a diaper and it looks mushy, it might be because he sat in it. but if it's not formed at all, and he has a constant wet cough, take a sample to the doctor.

Hi J.,
As for the teeth, Children have 20 teeth total and there is a 2nd set of molars that come in between 18 and 24 months. As for the vitamins, my son has been on a vitamin since he was a two months old ( I breast fed him) and he started a multivitamin with fluoride when he was 6 months. He is 20 months now and does a chewable vitamin with fluoride. AS for the BM's, my son's vary in consistency depending on how much and what type of fruit he has had over the past few days.

Hope this helps!

Here's a chart to tell you you basic time line when teeth come in, fall out and come in again.
http://my.clevelandclinic.org/services/dental_care/hic_Te...

Vitamins can be started at age 2. Half is given. By age 4 a whole one can be given. These are great for younger children since many are picky eaters as toddler and preschoolers. They help to supplement when your child may be missing. Be sure to give them in the morning before brushing teeth because they get stuck in the teeth cavities and need to be brushed out.

Every child will poop differently. It goes by their body and the foods they eat. Be thankful it's more soft than hard. Kids with hard poops can have some problems and it can be a real struggle to get them to poop without it hurting. If you want to firm the poop a bit, try giving foods that are more binding like cheeses.

Hi J.,

I too have a almost 2 year old. We were just at the dentist this past Thursday and all but his molars are in. She said that they are underlying and will be presenting shortly. She also mentioned that if he did not have problems with teething before, they may not bother him.

2. He has been on a multi-vitamin (liquid with floride) since he was about 12 months when he started depending on food more. (I breastfed for 1 year). When he was about 17 months he hated the taste of the liquid vitamin and my ped told me to give him a chewable flintstone and gave me a seperate chewable floride.

If you little one is not on one yet, call your ped, you should start ASAP.

3. I too also felt as though his bm's were always mushy....but I found out after him starting potty training , that when they have their diaper on, that the bm gets soft and looks mushy because they are moving around and sitting down. The only way I found this out was he was running around without his diaper and did a bm on the floor and it was normal bm's.

I hope this helps.
