We are having a babysitter for the first time this evening. My daughter is eight months old. How much should we pay her? Any other advice about having a babysitter?

What can I do next?

We pay $8/hr for one child and $10/hr for two. My children are a little older 3 & 8.
Enjoy your evening out!

We pay $10 an hr with a $30 minimum. When the newborn arrives, we'll pay $15 an hr for both.
Our son is 16 months and we've had a sitter(s) since he was 6 mos old.
The first time I left our son with the sitter, I called every half hour. It gets easier though. Now we just have her call us if there is a problem or question.

I have a 12 yr old daughter. We will celebrate our 20th anniversary soon. Date night has always been a priority!! Have fun!!!

As for sitters, we have one every weekend at least once. I guarantee $40 minimum. This usually works out to $10+ depending on the situation. If we cancel or change plans at the last minute (it happens if a little one gets sick or in our case, daughter ends up at a friends house to sleepover at the last minute) I still pay my sitter $40 because she saved her evening for us.

We typically go out around 7:30 and return home about midnight, sometimes afterwards. My sitters (high schoolers) leave my house with $60 CASH per week on average. We rarely pay under $60 for the night.

My sitters seem to like this arrangement because I have 2 that compete to be the first to call me to book a weekend night. Sometimes, we just go out both nights because we really like our sitters (and we really like to go out!)

I have a 6 month old and I pay my sitter $10/hr. I rarely use her though, but she is great. She speaks spanish to my daughter. Unfortunately she is moving in Dec and I will have to find a new one.
