First Menstrual Cycle After Delivery

I am wondering about how long it should take until I have my first menstrual cycle after delivery. I have two older children and do not remember exactly when I started having periods again. My son is now 11 weeks old and I have not had my first menstrual cycle yet. I am not breastfeeding which I know can delay your cycle. Please let me know if you know the average time it takes to start again. thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies. I will call my Dr if I don't start soon. I took a pregnancy test just to make sure I wasn't pregnant and thank goodness, I'm not :) Didn't want two kids under 1 years old :)

I got mine 10 weeks postpartum while breastfeeding so talk about a shocker for me. Since you're not breastfeeding I'd say you should get it any time now. I'd wait until 15 weeks before I questioned things but if you're concerned remember you can call your OBGYN office and talk to a nurse. Don't feel dumb they get those questions all the time. I called. I knew everything was probably fine but since you hear everyone brag about how long it took for them to get a period while breastfeeding I just wanted to double check.

With all my kids, my cycle returned between 15-18 months -- about the time breastfeeding dropped to just once or twice a day. Docs said it was totally normal.

I breastfeed my boys, so I don't know for sure, but I thought most women got their back pretty soon after giving birth since there's no natural supression. I thought that was why most women left the hospital with a script for birth control and why SO many formula-fed babies get another sibling within a few months!

Are u nursing? If you are it can take a while and you may not have one at all during your nursing.

I don't know the average but this time around (I'm not breastfeeding) it came back 7 weeks post-partum.

It took mine a couple months, so I wouldn't be too worried. But you should call your OB just to make sure. Also, If you have been sexually active, you could be pregnant.

It can take several months to get your menses back post-partum. This should have been addressed at your 6 week post-partum check up. What is your method of birth control?? If you are sexually active and not using birth control - you can get pregnant even if your cycle has not yet returned.

I breastfed and unfortunately got my menstrual period back at 6-7 weeks postpartum all 3 times!!!
