Hi Moms! My little guy is 10 months old and starting to get tired of baby food. What do you ladies use as first finger foods? He does eat Puffs, Cheerios, little bits of pasta and cheese, but I know he needs more. Ideas? Thanks!

Small pieces of bread (like the size of dice, or smaller). You could do this with bread that has a spread on it (ie butter, avocado), or toss the bread in something (vegetable puree, broth, oil and herbs, applesauce). Cut up french toast or pancakes. Lightly sauteed tofu. diced oranges, bananas, ripe pear, avocado, cooked veggies. Also, like the other poster said, small bits of your own food. For ten month old, just maybe watch for not introducing too many new things at one time.

as long as it's easy to chew, he should be able to tolerate anything & everything. Soft meats, cheese, eggs, diced cooked vegies & harder fruits - like apples, pears - need to be cooked. Lots of options!

I just cut up little pieces of whatever I was eating.

Like others said, just start cutting up what you are eating, or making softer versions (nuke the veggies a bit longer, etc). One tip for you to make your life easier...and this comes form 14 years of home childcare. Get your pizza cutter out. Use it for EVERYTHING. Bread products, waffles, pancakes, grilled cheese (my littles this age LOVE lightly toasted grill cheese!), green beans and carrots...all of it can be easier to cut into very small bites with a good pizza cutter.

If you make a small batch of French toast or pancakes, save a few and freeze or refrigerate for another day to pop into the toaster...they don't care if they have them again the next day or several times in one week. And for those French toast and waffle things...plain or with applesauce on them is how I do it for littles...no syrup. Its all sugar and so sticky. Applesauce gets a little fruit into them with it!

Scrambled eggs (some parents and Dr's say dont do eggs....thats your call). But with most of mine, I start with a can of carrots. Straight from the can, cut to bites. They always love them!

Good luck!

I give my 12 month old Those little fruit cups of peaches and pears. Hard booked egg. I gave her scrambled eggs early on also. She was fine. I cut up blueberries and grapes in fourths. My daughter will eat small pieces of chicken. Just whatever we are eating, just smaller.

Yes I agree with the others, just start giving him what you're eating. Other snack ideas are cereal bars, frozen waffles, bananas, pears, grapes, blueberries, Goldfish (that baby ones are easier at first)....the list goes on! This is a great age b/c you can really just cross over to all table food and make your life easier!
