Hello,
I have a 10 1/2 month old daughter who is starting on the table foods. I was looking for some good finger food and table food ideas that are quick and easy. She likes mashed potatoes and loves those star puffs, but I wanted to spice it up a little for her. What types of foods are you feeding your fellow 10 month olds? She still eats jar food too mixed with rice cereal or oatmeal. She also has to take supplement drops for iron. She has 6 teeth right now.

What can I do next?

My 10 month old loves eating little pieces of deli-style turkey with little pieces of whole wheat bread. She also loves picking up and eating little pieces of pasta and green beans. I'm trying to feed her what we are eating. Sometimes she eats it great and sometimes she isn't interested. In the hopes I keep mealtimes happy and positive, I don't push her too much. We are inbetween stage 2 baby foods and regular table foods (she gags on the stage 3 stuff so we're skipping it for now). Hope this helps.

When my son was that age I gave him anything we ate that was able to be mashed. His favorites were cooked squash and zucchini. I would just cut them into small pieces, place in a bowl, cover them with water and nuke for 3 minutes until soft. I also would make him banana, pumpkin, or zucchini bread. He also loved sweet potatoes, cooked peppers from stir frys or fajitas and omelets. Any type of fruit like strawberries, watermelon etc... Then again, it all really depends on how many teeth your daughter has.

Good luck this is always a challenging time trying to find healthy foods they will like.

I went with the gerber foods b/c I didnt care about the price for feeding my child good safe food. My doctor told me that feeding them our food to early could promote bad eating habits and contains alot of sodium that isnt good for young children. In order to avoid all the salt that canned veggies and table foods have you'd have to serve her fresh fruit and veggies, cook them and cut them up into smaller peices to prevent choking. Personally I didnt have all the time in the world to make my on finger foods so I went with the one that is less time consuming and pays a few bucks for some Gerber fruit chews that has bananna's, strawberries and other fruit in them vs. taking 30 minutes to prepare a child little slices of bananna and strawberries when most of it would end up on the floor. If your strapped for time then I'd reccommend just buying her some finger foods but if not then it's good to make ur own finger foods.Just dont give her alot on her tray b/c in the long run you'd be spending more money to rebuy the things to make her finger foods vs. a 2 dollar box of fruit chews that come in pre-made portions for kids and would last longer. I went with buying mostly b/c my son ate alot and making the baby food for him took longer than opening a jar of gerber and heating it up every single time he wanted to eat.

Hey B.,

When my little ones were 10mths how time flies two and three now. I would by the graduates, carrots, green beans, and maybe try the baby Vienna looking meats but be careful with those you should peel them and cut them up my daughter had trouble with the skin. My daughter also had trouble with Iron. If you were to feed your baby v-c type foods before or while feeding them foods high in iron it will help their body absorb the iron quicker. I received a hand out from my doctors office that listed higher iron contented foods. Have fun with it. Test things out and she will let you know what she likes. A. www.busymomsworkathome.com

I have a little boy who is almost one so we've been making the transition to table food. He loves grilled cheese sandwiches. I just have to tear them up into small bits but he loves them. He only has two teeth right now but he still manages to gum stuff to break it down. I can also cut up hot dog weinies into small parts and he loves those. We still use baby food occassionally when we go out to eat and they don't have anything on the menu that he can eat.

My little started walking at about 10 months and he is everywhere now. Good luck with yours.

Frozen vegeatables are great, because you just have to warm them and they're pretty well cooked (mushy). Plus, you can get organic frozen cheaper. The sliced carrots were a favorite for us. Of course, bananas. Frozen, shelled edamames are great, because they taste good, kids like them, and they are a great source of protein. And once she has enough teeth, my favorite kid-friendly healthy meal is whole-wheat grilled cheese with bits of broccoli cooked in the middle (again, frozen is awesome at this stage - so fast and already soft). Whole-wheat pasta, also - the rotini or penne is good. At this age, it's a good idea to develop taste buds toward healthier foods, rather than the refined, process foods. Good luck! Oh, one more thing - to avoid future problems, it's a good idea to serve her what you serve everyone else, even if it's just you two. You do not want to get in the habit of having to make two meals at each sitting - it's a hard habit to break.

At that age sometimes I'd do scrambled eggs and mix in spinach and/or a little cheese. It's really not that hard to prepare this stuff from fresh or frozen... in fact I found it encouraged me to eat better myself. i.e. to eat a banana and give them some, instead of grabbing something else less healthy.

I also have a 10 1/2 month old daughter(Courtney) who is eating table foods. Things that she has really liked are mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, bananas, squash and some of the other common foods that she also ate from the jar. She ate cabbage last night and loved it. And she LOVES scrambled eggs, chicken and dumplins, macaroni and cheese and also potatoes, carrots and onions that are cooked with a pot roast(mashed together). So far, she is not too picky and will try anything, but she wasn't crazy about cranberry sauce on Thanksgiving! She also still eats oatmeal with fruit for breakfast and some baby food, but her daycare cooks table food and blends them, so she is beginning to not like the baby food as much.

Courtney is almost walking too and it is so exciting to see how much closer she gets everyday. Last night she let go of the couch and took 3 steps before she decided to sit and crawl instead. Good luck and I hope some of these ideas help.

I wouldn't waste the extra money on the Gerber meals that you see in the store. Why waste the money when you can feed her right from your own fridge? Just offer her foods cut small like cooked veggies (except kernel corn), pasta, canned fruits, etc. That's what I've done with my own children. Good Eats!

I give my baby yogurt or cottage cheese for snacks. Fresh fruit and raw veggies are very good for them. I stay away from the jars and boxed foods because they really are not good for them. They have lots of things your body does not need. I also give my little boy (one) some toast with jelly or almond butter. And sometimes even a raw potatoe when I am peeling them for dinner. My 2 year old will not eat much. I can get him to eat a peice of wheat toast with real butter on it. Verry good. We have recently gotten him to eat some meat but still no veggies. My one year old eats whatever I give him.

Try shopping in the organic section of the store. They have fewer preservatives and tastes better. I get this from a book "You on a diet" by Dr. Oz and recommended by Oprah. You dont realize how bad the food is that you eat and feed your baby.

Hi so I have read most of the replys-and heres mine. I have a 9 month old who refuses to eat any pureed baby food!! This started a few weeks ago. I tried everything but finally came to the conclusion to start "real food". I was really worried abt her protein and carb intake, seeing as she is a really picky eater. I found the answer, Tofu!! Its really high in protein/carbs, and so bland and mushy that she can eat it. Rice cakes are great too-good for teething.
Good luck, J.
