Finger Food Ideas Please!

My son is 9 months and just last week figured out the "hand to mouth" to feed himself. Yay! We've been giving him little organic puffs, fingers of buttered toast, pieces of strawberry, steamed carrots. What are some other finger food/snack ideas that would be appropriate for his age? He has no teeth yet, but he's a really good chewer just with his hard gums!

What can I do next?

Sweet potato fries, cheerios... well, anything really. My first 2 kids would eat anything I'd cut into a french fry shape... my son, not so much ;) He eats fish sticks though...

I also used to make grilled cheese sandwiches and cut them into long strips.

Hi--
You've expressed in previous posts that your little one is having problems with constipation and digesting solids. Children's saliva changes when they get teeth, and it is the body's way of telling you that they are ready for solid food. I would say that if his digestion problems are continuing that you should back off on the solids, not take it a step up and give him finger foods. He's still pretty young and he doesn't NEED solids until he's a year of age. I know he's acting interested in food--he learns by mimicking you--but that doesn't mean he's ready to eat it. I'm sorry if I'm crossing a boundary by telling this. I went through this with my oldest son and it made him very sick because his body wasn't ready for it. I am trying to spare you the same problems we had. Of course, you don't have to listen to me. I just thought I would share what I learned. It was my midwife, who is also a naturopath, who shared this information with me when I had my second child. It explained a lot about the problems I had with my first. I think I may have mentioned this in a past post---I won't keep harping on it--I promise.
Good luck!
J.

My son loved green beans at this age! Great soft finger food.

Other ideas: cheerios, french toast bits, banana pieces, cooked pasta with a little bit of butter, bits of any soft fruit or veggie (pears, steamed veggies, etc.)

Magic Pop.

Here in Dallas, you can find it at Central Market (which is like the gourmet version of the grocery store H.E.B.). I can't remember what store in Denver might be the best place to find it, but my kiddo LOVED it at this stage. Still loves it, actually.

My daughter loved the Gerber apple pieces. Also, a lot of breakfast foods are good, pancakes, waffles, eggs. If you cook pasta long enough it will get soft.

good choices. I'll add corkscrew smart pasta - has lots of protein, fiber, and calcium

I would boil pasta shapes and pour veggie puree over it, like sweet potatoe or carrots. Looked like mac n cheese, but SO much better for them! They ate that for a long time!!!
Also shredded cheese was a big hit...
Green beans, banana rounds that I would break up into fours- they do it naturally if you just bend them, watermelon and fruit of all kinds other than totally round ones, like grapes or blueberries.

Chicken nuggets, well at least the particle board kind. Ya know I can't really remember beyond they ate anything.
