Fine Curly Long Hair -- Weak and Damaged Since Giving Birth/bfeeding?

Dear Mommas,
This is not my usual type of question but here goes:
I grew my fine curly hair long for about 5 years. 2 years after birth and 2 years into bfeeding, the top layers of my hair are long, and the underneath layers started to break, to the point where I had 2 lengths of hair -- long and wavy on top, short and curly on the bottom. I did get it cut to medium length on the top so it looks more even.

My question: 1. did other people's hair become weak in parts after birth, bfeeding etc? Or is it unrelated. Is it just my getting middle aged?? :)
2. For those with fine curly hair, how do I prevent future breakage...any inside tips?

As an aside, I don't care that much, I am glad to have hair given the number of friends I know who have undergone chemo, but I do want to take care of what I have.

Thanks as usual for your advice.
Jilly

I have thick curly hair, but now I have noticed that my hair is starting to thin out and is starting to dry out more than usual. I'm in my twenties, and old in my book, is past 80 :) anyways, I am also breastfeeding my infant and I have a toddler. Not sure if my hair issues are linked to breastfeeding or more on the lines of stress. My husband thinks that I'm driving my self crazy for obsessing too much, but he also thinks that I should slow down a bit, and not think about too many unhappy thoughts. I have noticed that my diet isn't the best, and once I changed my diet along with taking my prenatal vitamins with dha, things started to look better. I am also working on being positive, not worrying too much and asking for help. Hope this helps.:) oh and I also use a leave in conditioner. I apply it to my hair before I apply other products like gel or hairspray. I think is helps keep it moisturized, and from being damaged by other products.

Hi Jilly,

My hair began falling out a few months after birth. It is also a lot thinner. I attribute part to hormones and other to my OLD, OLD age of 42...ha.

Like you, I'm just grateful to 1. have hair, 2. to have my precious son.

Maybe try Loreal's new hair line for thin hair? Also be sure you're eating a healthy diet...

Happy New Year
