Hi Moms - sometimes I feel like I don't have enough energy to get through the day. What do you do to keep yourself going? Are there certain foods you eat, exercises you do, etc. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Hi A.,
I am 55, have two teenage boys and have plenty of energy. I teach 5-8 exercise classes each week and do personal training. Before you think "oh she was born that way!" Let me say about 15 years ago I could not make it through the day.
I changed my eating habits, first of all by having a healthy breakfast. I always exercised even when I didn't feel like it. But what helped me most of all were Shaklee supplements. If you would like to know about them. Let me know. They just introduced a new product called "Energy" that is being used by the US Ski and Snowboard teams at the Olympics.

Hi, Im a mother to a 1 year old and a stay at home mom. Most days i didnt even feel like cleaning the house or getting off the couch that much. So, I started taking green tea supplements and it helps boost your energy and now when i start cleaning i dont stop until the whole house is clean. It also curbs your hunger so it helps you lose some weight as well. Its really cheap for 45 days its only $10.00 at walmart and i've already lost 10lbs in 4 weeks. Its a great energy boost. Good Luck.

Get your Vitimian D and B 12 checked. Mine was way off, and made me feel really tired. It's back to normal and I feel great.

There are a lot of factors that can influence your energy levels. If it's really a problem, I'd see your doctor and have a work-up to make sure it's not something medically that is making you fatigued.

Hormone levels, certain medical conditions, stress, depression can all affect your energy levels. Carbs are nature's energy sources. The more carbs you have, the more energy you will have, but it will also put more insulin into your bloodstream which can have a negative effect.

If you'd like to make changes to your diet, I'd check your insurance to see if they'll cover the cost of seeing a dietician who can help you make some minor changes with significant impact.

Working out really does have an affect on your alertness, too. I personally can't do it first thing in the morning - my body can't do it - which leaves after work (and usually after kids go to sleep) as the main time I have available making it harder to get to sleep.

Good luck. My recommendation, if it remains a problem, is to see your doctor, have them do a CBC (complete blood count) and see if there is a medical factor that you might not be aware of.

I would make sure there is nothing physically making you this tired. I thought it was just me and having three kids and i went to the dr and well of course my thryoid was off and medication helped that and thenwe found a medication i was taking was making me tired, then i got off of it and a year later i got really tired again. Dr said myinflamation is so high no wonder i am tired, got on medication for that and boom a new woman, then i got tired again really tired and it was my gallbaldder and took that out and wow I am a new woman. Sometimes I think that might have been some of my problem all along . So I would go to the dr and if it keeps coming back you keep going back, it might just not be one thing or it could be something really simple! I was just lucky my blood and ultrasounds always showed real serious problems. I used to have to nap and now that my kids are older I was worried how am I going to function when they are not in school and I need to nap, well I havent napped since I got all this fixed and i stay up until 11 and wake at 7 no problem and that is a first for me ever. Good luck!

Supplements are important for me. Omega 3, women's multivitamin, 4000 units of D-3 and the best thing for energy I've found is timed release B12.

I used to be like you! But like just about everyone that has answered you so far I found a good vitamin program and now drink soy protein shakes daily. I am a new person. I have more energy now in my 50's than I did in my 30's and 40's. Exercise will help too. 20-30 minutes daily (or most days) will go a long way.

I am such a believer that I now have my own small business selling nutrition. Do a little exploration and choose a plan that sounds right for you. You won't be sorry!

Let me know if I can help.

HI A.,

Good nutrition and exercise will do wonders, not only for energy but for restful sleep. I dodge processed foods because synthetic chemicals destroy the immune system so I try to keep most of my food purchases to organic. An absorbable multivitamin is absolutely necessary these days as food does not carry the same nutrition as before due to the depletion of minerals from the soil. The more a crop is harvested without crop rotation, the lesser the soil is in nutrients.

Dodge multivitamins from Walmart, Sam's Costco, GNC and other drug stores. The quality is low enough that they cause more damage than they do good. The one I use has been tested for absorbability and I can feel it!

Regards,

M.
