Fever Blister

A month ago I broke out in hives due to stress. Now I have a fever blister on my lip. Ouch! I normally take lysine vitamins and apply abreva to the area. That works fine but just wondering if anyone has found anything else that will speed up the healing process.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

At the first sign (tingling & itching)I apply a frozen tea bag as much as possible. The cold stops the process. Then I put a baby asprin (disolved to form a paste) on it for the healing. Don't put ice when it is a scab, the cold slows down the healing. It has helped some.. but I think I'm going to try some of the other great suggestions too. :)

If you are interested in a natural remedy, we use Tea Tree Oil. You can get it for about $5-10 at a natural food store in the essential oils section.

My advice is the same! My husband has suffered with "cold sores" almost his entire life on his lower lip. When he gets stressed or with extreme sun exposure. He now takes Valtrex when he gets that "tingle" and the healing is much better and faster for him. He also does not take it daily as you would for the genital herpes, but at the onset. Good luck!

I don't have them but my best friend carries around a small bottle of scope and applies that A LOT and she says it has made a big difference. She says if she even feels them coming on she will apply the scope and can even keep them from coming out! Got athletes foot? Put Monistat 7 on it and it goes right away! Don't use the regular stuff for athletes foot use the stuff for a yeast infection!

Hello fellow mom of 5!!! And married 15 years too!!! That is a crazy coincidence. Except I have 2 boys, 3 girls.

Well we tried the low argine, high lysine & no help really. Tried the lysine capsules for hubby but the smaller kids cannot take so my favorite product for them is Arbonne's Herbal lip Ointment. Works like a charm, with in 3 days the cold sores &/or fever blisters are gone, also the Lip Service Dietary Supplement Natural Support for Healthy Lips: An effective herbal supplement that works to keep cold sores from forming thanks to a synergistic combination of lysine, vitamins, minerals and herbs used for centuries to support healthy lips.!

Enjoy your awesome family, I hope to talk soon. G

I think it's called Valtrex. It's the stuff you see advertised for genital herpes, but since it's the same virus, it works. You take two when you first feel it coming on and you take two 24 hours later. The sore never progresses beyond where you first take it. I've done it twice, and haven't had any since (several years). It seems to have done the same thing for my husband. It's hard to get a doctor to prescribe it that way. We were on a trip and went to urgent care and that's where we got it. Mine tend to get really nasty and not go away on their own, so this is the only way I can treat them. The sore still lasts the same amount of time, but you only get that little tingle, and not the whole ugly sore. You might check it out for next time.

Ask your doctor to write you a percription for Aciclovir, same thing as Valtrex, but generic. It comes in both pills and cream. I use both when I get a fever blister. Taking a pill when you feel one coming on will actually stop it in it's tracks, if you take it soon enough. I have had them all my life and Aciclovir has made a HUGE difference!!!

Zovirax - it's a prescription cream. It's pricey, but if you get it on there early - as soon as you feel it coming on - it's AMAZING.

It may sound crazy, but I always use ice. As soon as I feel a blister coming, I apply ice until I just can't stand it any longer. I continue to do this a couple of time each day until it is healed. Somehow, the freezing seems to speed it up for me.
Good luck.

I too like to use the tea tree oil, but I get mine from Melaleuca online. I know the quality where most times you have to hope it will be the stated strength. I can help you set up an account with them if you would like, so you can shop online with them.
The company has it in oil or ointment form. They also have other wonderful safe quality health products.
I love them.

When I first break out with a cold sore (aka fever blister) I apply acne treatment gel (8% benzyle peroxide) from Mary Kay. When it starts to scab over I use Extra Emolient Night Cream, also Mary Kay. It's thicker than vaseline or carmex and helps it keep from cracking and ripping off.

I get them when when I am stressed with lack of sleep. I have never tried an oral med but I am not opposed to it. My dentist has always prescribed Denevir. (Might be Denivir.) It is an ointment/cream that you put at when you first start to feel it come on and then 3-4 times a day. It is awesome. I think it is a little spendy, so check the price with your pharmacy if you are interested in it. Best wishes!!
