If your little one has a fever of 100.5 my Pediatrician told us to call for them to tell us what to do next. Hope it goes away soon.
I always call the doctor if i am not sure what to do. They will know if she should be seen, and how soon. I hope shes feeling better.
I agree that she needs to go to the doctor. That's a pretty high fever and could be a sign of something worse. You've already given it a day or two. Sometimes an infection clears up in one spot and moves to another. She could have a ear infection or who knows what.
As a general rule I usually go to the doctor when there is a fever present. Unless it goes away quickly but if she's had it for a couple days there is some type of infection there that her body is trying to fight off. If it's bacterial she needs antibiotics. She could have Roseola, that's common for that age and it's a viral infection that the only symptom is a high fever for a few days followed by a mild rash on their skin. I personally wouldn't let a fever go, my daughter had just a fever last year when she was 5 mos old and it turned out to be a nasty kidney infection that required hospitalization for four days at UofM. Not trying to scare you but a fever is a good indicator for a need to see the doctor. At the very least call your Ped, I'm pretty sure they'll say to bring her in.
When i took my daughter to the ER not to long ago with a fever about the same temp! They told me to ulternate between tylenol, and motrin! The tylenol hsoud be given every 4 hours and the Motrin every 8 hours! Because that will brake the fever up fast! But if that doesn't work I'd definatly take her to the doc. or the ER!
Hi-I have a 2 yr old son who recently was running a 104.8 fever (with no other symptoms) for 4 days I took him to the doctor and they did blood work and x-rays thinking possible phenomia everything came back normal. He would wake up every hour on the hour and be shaking so bad I felt terrible. I called childrens hospital they said that the fever wasn't bad at all and everything my doctor did was perfect. I thought are you crazy. But they said that alot of kids get virus's and there is nothing else wrong then a high grade fever. So after 7 days he was sleeping on my chest and all of a sudden he was soaking wet and the fever was gone instantly. He has had it every so often but I finally figured out it was associated with his teeth. Hope this helps.
I would take her back to the Doctor. My doctor usually tells me to come back if the fever doesn't cease in 2-3 days. Since Sunday has been 4. Plus, fever is an indication of an infection and if she had tonsilitis the antibodic may not have completely gotten rid of it. She may need a second dose and you obviously want to get her started on it as soon as possible.
Hi,
My rule for myself is: If I am wondering if I should take my kids to the doctor - Call the doctor and ask. They are more than happy to answer any question, even if it seems dumb to you. Then, if they say you to wait a few days, you saved yourself a trip in to the office. Most likely with a fever though, they will have you come in.
Best of luck,
M.
