Hi B.,

Get yourself a copy of 'Taking Charge Of Your Fertility' by Toni Weschler. It is THE book on how to get prego. I used her methods and got pg 2 times on the 1st try.

Good luck, S.

I agree that an Ovulation Prediction Kit is a good idea. However, if you tried these without success, I'd consider purchasing the ClearBlue Easy Ovulation monitor. While it is pricy, I think it is worth it if it helps achieve the goal! Also, the OPK typically gives you the two best days for conception. The monitor may predict additional days that you might otherwise miss. I also would consider using the product Preseed. Check out www.preseed.com for all the details/testimonials. I'm not sure if either of these can be credited with the conception of my son but after trying without success, I did get pregnant within two months of using these. Good luck:)

....i get really frustrated when people say "relax and it will happen". there are a lot of people out there that cannot get pregnant without medical intervention...no amount of "relaxing" is going to change the fact. many people do not realize how hurtful their comments can be to a couple struggling with getting pregnant. also, male infertility is just as often the problem as female infertility. you and your partner need to see a doctor (who may refer you to a fertility specialist)if you've been trying for over three months with no success.

I would definitely recommend seeing a reproductive endocrinologist; they will work up all the possible causes of you having trouble getting pregnant, including having your husband tested. It might be a simple problem that can be corrected easily, or it might be more complicated, but either way at least you will know more about why you are having trouble. Make sure you are living a healthy lifestyle including not smoking and minimal to no drinking as well as a balanced diet.

Hello! you are not alone.

What I can tell you from my personal experience is GIVE UP. Why? Because you are putting so much stress on your body - it won't react. It's your body's internal mechanicism for "protecting" itself. It took my husband and I almost 4 years to get pregnant and it didn't happen until after we stopped trying. Once I let the stress go - it wasn't easy - my body started working.

The next thing you can do is have your doctor run hormone tests to see where your estrogren, testoserone and other hormone levels are.

Change your diet. East more healthy - cut down on pork and processed food. Eat things with folic acid in it - broccoli, spinach, etc. Start cutting back on your caffiene intake (coke, pepsi, coffee, etc.) and work on your body that way as well.

It will happen - you just need to let go, Let God - as they say.

Take care.

God Bless.

Cheryl

Are you charting your temperature in the mornings? Using OPK's to determine when you ovulate? Have you read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility? If you have tried all that, then go see a reproductive endocrinologist. They can help you so much more than a regular gynocologist.

There are quite a few things you can try if you you are not ready to see a fertility doctor, ie RE.

1. I highly recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It will help you learn how to chart basal body temperature, cervical mucous and cervical position. It also explains many issues related to infertility.

2. Buy an ovulation predictor kit. They are just sticks that you pee on or collect urine in a cup and dip. First Response has a kit of 20 sticks for about $40. Another brand is Answer they have a 20 pack for half the price, but they are just strips, you will need to pee in a cup.

3. There are some fertility boards over on the Baby Center website.

If you have been trying for over a year it is best to see a fertility specialist to make sure everything is working as it should. In my case I was ovulating, but because of a hormone imbalance my eggs were too old at ovulation which would cause miscarriage even if we did manage to fertilize an egg. We did lose at least one baby that way.

Yes, fertility treatments can be expensive, but depending where you live the law may state the insurance has to cover certain things. It is definitely worth looking into. My fertility costs for testing and three rounds of IUI were under $1,000.

The whole relax theory can be too difficult to accomplish on your own, so getting some answers about your fertility health might help. I have a beautiful son conceived through IUI, and am now expecting again, this time on our own in between IUI rounds. So there is hope, hold onto hope.

I wish you success!

Before spending the time and money to see a fertility doctor, I strongly recommend trying an ovulation predictor kit, which you can pick up at any drugstore. I tried actively for more than a year to get pregnant with my first child. I had about given up hope when I tried the ovulation predictor, which is basically just a stick that you pee on like a pregnancy test. I was pregnant after the first try. I was surprised by how soon after the end of my period I ovulated. I always thought it would happen closer to the middle of my cycle and that was probably my problem. The ovulation predictor strips are not cheap - I think it was about $40 for two test strips. But that's way cheaper than fertility treatments, so definitely worth a try. A cheaper and more fun method might be to make sure to have sex everyday, but that could be a bit much.

Hi B.,

I don't know how long you have been trying to have another baby, or if it is with the same father as with your 10 y/o daughter. What I can tell you is that your body is MUCH different than it was when you became pregnant at 21. If you have been trying for over a year, you and your partner, should see a fertility specialist. When you consider the things that have to match up for a baby to be conceived, you realize just how increadible it is that ANY are ever born. Blows my mind to consider all the unwanted pregnancies...I think that the worst thing that anyone ever said to me was to relax. Go to the doctor and find out what you can do to make it happen. If it is not an option to become pregnant yourself, remember that there are other ways to form a family. We tried from the time I was 32 until I was 36. When I was 37,we were handed 2 of the most amazing girls to raise and love. They are our daughters in every way. In all the pro-life/pro-choice debates why does no one ever remind people of this choice...?

Have you looked in to NFP (Natural Family Planning)? Assuming you don't have an issue with hormone balances, and it's just a timing issue, you can tell when you ovulate by simply observing the signs on the toilet paper whenever you go to the bathroom. (Times where your discharge is slimy like an egg white is when you ovulate) Have sex then!

I was trying for 2 1/2 years to get pregnant. I wasn't willing to do any fertility treatments so, I started taking vitamin B-6 supplement and a multi vitamin every day and apparently it worked for me because now I am pregnant with twins. I have also heard that taking a baby aspirin will help too. Don't worry, it will happen. You just need to relax and do some research. Good Luck!
