Hi Moms!

I'm helping put together a church group retreat and part of my job is coming up with a 'feel good' activity. Last year, everyone personalized their own paper sack and everyone wrote an individual message to everyone else so at the end of the retreat everyone had a bag full of nice notes written just for them. Anyone out there have any good ideas they can share? I'd appreciate it!

Thanks - C.

What can I do next?

The coffee mug idea is a good one, but you could also have everyone bring a coffee mug (or ornament, or keychain, or book) that somehow encompasses who they are--such as a mug with a horse on it because I love horses and grew up riding horses. Then each person can tell about the thing they brought and why. Maybe before everybody tells about them, you can have each person select one they like (without knowing who brought what). Then the person can tell why they brought it and the new owner can tell why they selected it. Perhaps then they could then be prayer partners after the activity.

I went to one many years ago. Everyone brought a coffee mug and put their names in it along with a little information about themselves. Everyone went home with a different coffee mug and the name of the person who brought it. Everytime they used the coffee mug (or noticed it) they would say a quick prayer for the person who brought it. This way everyone had someone praying for them at varios times.

Go to www.onceuponafamily.com/L. and look around. The whole site is about family, creating traditions, etc. No need to buy anything! Just look around at all the items and how to use them and you will get some fabulous inspiration for things you can do with your group. Read about the Dear Sweet Child Letter Box, Dates with Dad, the Love Wheel, and the While I'm Away box for some ideas--some of my favorites. You can do all these little projects just with your own supplies.

Hope it helps and have fun. E-mail me if you have any questions about how to do any of the projects! ____@____.com

You could have a loved one of each retreatant write a letter to them. Allow a special meditation and reflection time, where each person goes off to a quiet location to read the letters. We've done this with teens and their parents, and got amazing feedback on it.
