My son will be starting day care soon. They provide lunch and two snacks, therefore i will have to make sure he eats in the morning. He is 10 months and i am wondering if it is best to feed him food or formula. Currently he gets a bottle in the mornings and goes back to sleep. After that he gets stage 3 jar food, or whatever i am eating for lunch. Should i get him into the habit of eating breakfast before taking him to day care? or is it o.k to continue to give him a bottle? By the way he also drinks from a sippy cup, (nuby)but only in the middle of the day.

What can I do next?

Hi P.,
My name is H.. I'm from the Hamilton Sq area. I have 2 boys. One is 3 and the other is turning 6 the end of January. I'm just now putting my little one in preschool. From experience, I know boys are active, especially around other children. The more active they are, the more hungry they get. Feeding him in the morning is a great idea. Your instincts are kicking right in. If baby eats in the morning, he'll have energy to play all morning. Nap time is going to be easier because he'll be pooped. One suggestion you didn't ask for and I thought you might want is you should ween him off the bottle because you definitely don't want another baby picking it up, touching it, drinking from it, etc. As nice of a facility the daycare center may be, there are still germs. If it's any consolation to you, I know how it feels to let your ( first ) baby go somewhere where you have to leave him. Take tissues, you'll need them and just know that he will be fine the minute you walk out the door. Good luck and take care.

First of all congrats on one of the biggest steps in being a mommy, letting them go for the first time, even if for just a little while. As far as your question, I think maybe something small in the morning as well as a bottle. Maybe a jar of fruit. He is going to be more active in the daytime now so he needs a little more energy.

Both of my kids had a bottle/cup first thing when they got up. Daycare days I got in the habit of sitting them down with Cheerios or something light but they were never really interested in it because by that time they were full of milk. After you son gets adjusted to the center, he will change his eating habits naturally so I would just watch him for cues. As for the bottle, both my kids were on bottles when they started daycare. Around 1 year I moved them to sippy cups and that corresponded to when they started to sit at a normal table at daycare for snacks and meals.

When my son started on food, we started him on a Breakfast, lunch dinner cycle. This way it made an easy transition to regular food at real mealtimes we could keep up. He's now 2 and a half and he's food schedule is very set up and easy for us cuz it's just like ours. I would definitely start giving him breakfast. He is going to be on that kind of cycle at school you should follow it too.

Hi P.

I am a licensed provider and all 10 month old boys must eat in the morning alittle fruit, or ceral. Boys are so active and they will need the engery to play until luch time. Please try to ween him off a bottle. The bottle is bad in a faucilty center, due to the fact that children on botlles have a tendacey to drop them anywere. Before you know it another child will have his bottle trying to suck from it. Also sippy cups are better it prepares him for toddler stage when he sees
that he is the bigger boy. As a provider encouragment for that child as to why mommy has to leave you here to get you things are hard for first time parents. Talk to him about you leaving, even though he wouldn't understand much. Make sure he
has that time with you in the morning befor you leave. He may cry or he may just be that child that just runs and plays as soon as he gets their. If it is a caring center with people who care than just take a look a the big boy who is growing up. He will always need you, so don't feel bad about the reaction you get on the first day if it's a good one. make sure you have tissue cause you might be the only one crying.
Just remember it's both your first day away from each other.
Do yourself a favor if you are missing him call during your luch time to check up on they should have an open door policy.
Good luck to you and him.
