My son is 21 months and had a febrile seizure at daycare on Thursday. My daycare provider called 911 and he was rushed to Children's Hospital. They took his tempeture there and it as only 100 degrees. They said he had hand, foot, mouth disease. He just started to get the bumps on his face, hands and feet this afternoon. My question to other mothers who have had children have these seizures, what are the chances he will have another one. He was at daycare when it happened and I am thankful for that, because I don't know how I would have handled it! I have read that since he had the seizure with a relatively low fever his odds are a little higher that he will have another one. I have read that they aren't as scary as they seem, but I am just curious what other mothers think about these seizures. thank you

Both of my daughters had seizures as small children. My oldest daughter had them several times a day. She had every test know to man completed on her and doctors never did find out what was wrong. She was on the medication phenobarbital for a year. She is now almost 16 and hasn't had one since she was 1. My youngest daughter had seizures until she was almost 4. Same thing she had every test done with NO answers to why she had them. She also was on phenobarbital. She is now 10 and has been seizure free for 6 years. I have never heard of a febrile seizure at the temperature of 100 degrees or lower. I suggest you go to a Neurologist just to have him check to see if there is something wrong. It is better to be safe than sorry.

I have had good luck suggesting Liqui-Lea, at least 2 tsp. per day.

The good news, this condition is usually outgrown.

My daughter had one at nearly 1 year old (she'll be 11 this fall). It was a grand mal & they had to put her on life support to get it to stop - it went on for over an hour. She also had a lower fever (due to ear infection). The seizure was horrifying but it was never repeated. Just keep an eye on temps to make sure they're not running a low grade fever at nap or bedtime.
