Fear of Bathtub Question

I have 14 month old twins and one is all of a sudden afraid of bathing. They used to love the tub, as soon as they heard the water start running they would try to get to the bathroom door as quick as possbile. The one twin still loves the tub but the other cries as soon as I put her in and tries to get out and cries immediately. She hasn't fallen or got hurt. They did within the last month get tubes in their ears and wear plugs but that was over a month ago and she started this crying about 1 week ago. Anyone ever experience this change before?

What can I do next?

In my experience, twins sort of feed off each other if one fusses the other thinks that they should fuss too. Have you tried bathing them separately to see if they react in the same way? Could it be that the plugs are uncomfortable? We have one twin with tubes and we use aquaphor on a cotton ball to block water from getting in the ears.

This is so normal at this age. My daughter did the same exact thing. She would scream and try and get out immediately. It will pass. Good luck.

I have 3 boys, 5,3,1
and all of then did the exact same thing. It lasted for a few months and then things went back to normal again. I have no idea what causes it, but hang there. I will keep my fingers crossed it ends soon. We just had to do real quick baths and sometimes it would take 2 of us. 1 to hold him so he would not get hurt and 1 to wash.

My daughter is 3 years old and recently had tubes put in and for a short week or two after she was afraid to bathe because before the tubes the water would hurt her ears. Maybe she is just afraid because it used to hurt when the water got in her ears. I wouldn't worry too much she will forget about it if that is the case. I would try maybe getting the bathtub crayons and making bathtime fun again. Or maybe adding some of those slip guards on the bottom of the tub that are fish or something so she can swim with them. Whatever you decide to try make it fun, whatever scared her will pass just give it time good luck.

One of my twins did the same thing. All of a sudden one day, he just stated screaming in the bath. No reason...he didn't fall, have water thrown at him or have anything scary happen. It took about 6 months and finally he is starting to get over it. It's hard when you have one that loves the bath and the other hates it. I would just put him in and wash him up quickly and let daddy play with him while I stayed in with the other one. Hang in there, it just takes time.

Oh my gosh yes, and my son was probably the same age. He loved baths and would play then all of a sudden he'd freak out when I put him in the tub - no warning or anything just one day decided he hated it. I started getting in with him now and then and after about 6 weeks he went back to normal. I'm not sure how or why this happened, but as quickly as it came it went away. I chalked it up to just another phase little ones go through.
Good luck!

My son went through the same stage, we would get in the bath with him for a while (that was fun), and then I bought one of those blow up rubber duckie tubs and just put that in the middle of the big bathtub which did the trick. He did eventually outgrow this, now he hates to have his hair washed :P.

My son was 2 when he went through the exact same thing. He LOVED the bath and all of a sudden one day he screamed and cried and was terrified and would only stand in the water. I would just wash him quickly standing up and after about 2 weeks, he suddenly liked the bath again. Weird. No clue why but it did pass! Good luck!

Totally 100% normal for both my kids...it freaked me out with the fist one and then I think I actually posted here and got lots of responses saying it was a normal phase. I've seen others post the same issue here since and often think of it as one of those things nobody tells you - probably b/c it's short-lived...mine are only 2 years apart and I had forgotten about it completely until my second showed fear. I got in the tub with my daughter a couple times and we played...with my second, his sister calmed him and distracted him. Could you have the four year old play with them in the tub, or one at a time? Good luck - it will definitely pass..
