Favorite Geneaology Site?

My mother has asked me to investigate her family ancestry. She's in her 70s and not computer-friendly, so it falls to me! I certainly don't mind since it's my ancestry too, I just would like to be effective. So do you have a preferred geneaology site? I don't mind a fee, but I also don't have time to waste on a site that's inefficient.
Looking forward to your answers!
(I've also put up a question about boys' skinny jeans - if you have an answer there, let me know, thanks!)

Ancestry.com by far gives you the most bang for your buck so to speak. Many libraries with genealogy departments have Ancestry. com that you can access for free. They would probably also have Heritage Quest which is free to use at the library. Another free site is Family Search.com which has lots of genealogy information and you can access this from your home. It is best to start with the most recent information and work back. And also don't forget to look for the other family members which may give you clues to further your research.
I would recommend that you start with your local library and genealogy society and see what they have and try out the sites to find the one you like and works for you. I have been doing genealogy for over ten years and must warn you that it can become very addictive. Good luck and happy hunting.
Be sure to document all the resources you use and where you found the information so that in a couple of years you will be able to go back and see and not have to respend the time relooking.

Ancestry.com is the big one that people use. I haven't used it personally but my dad has to help round out the info. he's collected. It's not quite as impressive as the TV ads make it out to be, though. Don't expect to uncover long-lost photos of ancestors or fascinating stories -- think that's the exception more than anything.

My sister has been working on our family tree for years!!! She has used ancestry.com and found a lot of info. You can also try your local library site - see if they have a link to the Census Records - that has helped with finding a lot of names also since family members' names are listed with ages, birth places, etc. Depending on how far back she wants to go, it can be a very long journey in finding family. Good luck!!!

facebook. no seriously. I found a relative of my moms in Florida. And she had already done the whole family tree going back forever! She had a vast network of relatives as friends on FB, and so, my mom was able to reconnect with long lost relatives and was invited to a family reunion. All on FB for FREE!!!

Ancestry.com is good and they usually have a free 14-day trial; just be sure to cancel before then or they will charge you. Good luck and have fun!

My FIL is on this all the time. I think there is a fee, but it has been VERY helpful. He now has his side traced back to the 1450's in England and my family traced back in the Czech Republic into the 1700's. It's amazing what he has uncovered.
