Father's Day Presents for the Elderly

My father is 86 and in poor health. He has diabetes, a bad heart, poor hearing and eyesight, and is no longer very ambulatory. It is difficult to find gifts for him. He loves to eat, but if he doesn’t stay on a no sugar and very low salt diet he becomes very ill. Going out to eat is very difficult for him, so I would prefer to send him a gift of food. I sent him unsalted nuts for his birthday, and I need another treat item to send him for father’s day. Fruit baskets are ok, but he can’t eat that much fruit. I am looking for gift baskets of sugar free candy, or other treats. Any ideas would be helpful. I don’t have the privilege of living near him and need to find something I could send. Personal or crafty items he can’t really appreciate due to his poor eyesight. I find that as his time with us grows shorter I want to make father’s day as special as I can under the circumstances. Please help me with ideas. Thank you.

What can I do next?

That is what my late Dad had, exactly, before he died, and he also had a stroke.

My ideas are:
Doing things for him, around the house. BUT... to make him feel a part of it and still a "Man"... 'allow' him to suggest what needs fixing or what needs cleaning up etc.
Then, YOU hire a service, to do that for him.

Don't give food. Unless you know for SURE... that he CAN eat, what you give. Otherwise it will be detrimental to his condition.

Or, a large sized, tv remote control. My Dad had poor vision, so we got him a large sized remote, with large letters/numbers on it, so he could see.
Try Google Search it.
We found ours at Radio Shack.

Or, write him a nice note/poem, on how much you all love him and appreciate him. With a photo of you all. And then put it in a nice frame, for him. To display.

I know this may sound a little out of the ordinary, but what about making a tape recording of you telling him your favorite memories as a child or singing a song to him, your kids could participate too--- Tell him all the wonderful things you remember doing with him, a favorite story or what you liked to do etc. Maybe he would really appreciate this since you can't be near him right now. Oh, to have my daddy back so I could celebrate him in person this year!
Here are my ideas:
Send him some flowers and sugar-free chocolates. Even men like getting flowers (at least my dad did).
Record your voice telling him of special memories and how much you love him. My dad loved talking about things that had happened when he was vibrant and agile. (A recordable Father's Day card is a help for just saying "I Love You".)
Assemble some music from his younger years (my dad loved Big Band) on an inexpensive MP3 player.

And, if you haven't done it already and can possibly do it, record your dad's voice and some of his life story. It's so wonderful to hear/see them when they're gone talking about their life and experiences.

I'd love to hear what you decide to do.
