Fancy Nancy - 2Nd Grade?

Even if the girls are past that age, it is a unique opportunity that should not be passed on. My daughter has outgrown certain things, but she still likes to go back and revisit those things anyway. I'm also certain that not all the girls are past that age. Children are at different levels. My main concern would be what would the boys think?

Having a real Author visit a classroom is aways a treat and a wonderful event to have. I see no problem with this author visiting that age group. Have fun....dress up....serve tea and cookies.

I think the peek time for "Fancy Nancy" would be preschool or kindergarten. My girls would still enjoy this in 2nd grade, but maybe not so much in front of all their peers. That is about the age my 2 girls wanted to stop wearing little girl dresses to school. However, my 3rd grader is a total fashion accessory nut. Does she have any books that would appeal to boys or to older children? Maybe it would be better if it isn't all about fancy dressing up.

I think you should pass on this opportunity. As the mom of a boy I would be very disapppointed if my son's author visit was from an author who so clearly targets little girls. Unless this is an all-girl school, I would say no. Also, I am a mentor teacher and I do think little girls grow up much earlier now. In fact, I noticed today in a 1st grade classroom that none of the little girls had character lunchboxes (princess, tinkerbell, etc). They all had chosen more "tween" styles (plaids, heart prints, plain colors, etc). Sad that our 2nd graders think they are "grown up."

Sometimes I think parents think their children are more grown up than they truly are. Kids take their cues from their parents. Girls definitely still love dressing up at this age unless they are worried about it not being "cool" and being "cool" is being pushed on kids way too soon. Let the little girls be little girls :-) Have Fancy Nancy's author come to the school.

We have many author visits to our school, courtesy of our fabulous PTO. What I have noticed is that many of them will adjust their talk to meet the grade level that they are presenting to. If Jane knows that she is talking to second graders, she will most likely reflect that when speaking to them.

I think it's always a good idea for kids to meet an author, even if all they talk about is how they got the idea to write a book and the process involved. Just my two cents!

My daughter's favorite book right now is Fancy Nancy. She's 8 1/2.

My daughters would love it and they are 6 & 8 - my 8yo is in the 2nd Grade and most all the girls LOVE her

i love the book as did my daughter when she was in kindergarten and first grade. i'd pass.

I would never pass up the opportunity for a real author to speak to my children. I assume that she would be able to gear her talk to boys as well as girls and could handle the "older" girls.

My 2nd-grader is mostly past the "fancy" part of Fancy Nancy, but still appreciates the books. She is a little bit more of a tomboy and wouldn't want to dress fancy anymore, but some of her friends might.

My daughter is a 7 y/o 2nd grader & would enjoy meeting the author. She did read those books last year...and hasn't this year, but we actually just talked about those books today. Go for it!! Bring the author in!
