Family Photographers in North Burbs

We're looking to get some multi generation family photos. My son and his cousin are lucky enough to have 2 great grandparents still living. We want to document that before it's too late! My grandmother does have somewhat limited mobility, so we'd prefer to do the photos in my parents' house in Morton Grove.

Does anyone have a photographer to recommend who won't charge $500 for a sitting (plus more for the photos)? We're seeing so many that charge hundreds of dollars to do a one hour, on-location shoot, and then you have to buy the prints all individually. I certainly understand that it's the going rate for skilled professionals, but we're just not going to be able to manage that. We were hoping to get something slightly more reasonable. Anyone use someone they liked? Or know of an up-and-coming photographer trying to build their portfolio?

And if you've ever done this kind of photo, how long a session do you recommend? There will be 10 people--8 adults and two 1 year olds. Seems like an hour might be too short, but two hours might be too long for the babies. Advice?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

my friend is now our go-to photographer!
see her site at www.bridgetsternphotography.com
FANTASTIC!
look especially under family - she's done lots of large groups.
and you can discuss your special needs/limitations with her and i'm sure she'll see what she can do
her fee ($200) includes her sitting fee (she can knock it out in an hour or so - she works fast!) and includes an edited cd of both b&w and color images with full printing rights. this is AWESOME!
now, she might charge additional $ for her travel time (she's based in glen ellyn), as well as a bit more for that # of people, but i think you will find that's extremely reasonable. i treasure the images she's captured for us!!

I understand that you would like to do the photo in your home, but look for a Portrait Innovations in your area. If you can get your grandmother there for her part of the shoot, then someone can take her home so she doesn't have to sit there for the whole shoot.
They can accommodate very large group of people in their studios, and there is no sitting fees. I feel they have very good prices and they take about 60 poses! You can bring changes of clothes and you can choose any background(s) you want. For me it was a great experience and they did a FANTASTIC JOB. You also get your photos right away.
Good luck!

Hi J.!

I've been doing photography for years, but recently launched my own business. I may be what you're looking for - since I'm new to the business, I am definitely looking to build my portfolio. I have lots of experience photographing people of all ages. I specialize in candid shots, but also offer traditional portraits. Each photo session includes an online gallery where you, family, and friends can order prints as well as a CD of images for personal use.

Exact timing will depend on your specific needs, but I would probably be able to get lots of great shots in an hour (perhaps a little longer due to the large number of people). I definitely think 2 hours will be too long for two 1 year-olds :)

If you're interested, you can check out my work at www.daisygrace.com.

Hope to hear from you soon!

I have the BEST recommendation that was given to me and I can personally say I have used her as well. Check out www.glasslilac.com . I used her after my sister had recommended her last year. She came out and did a sitting with my two boys, at my home, for about two hours. About 100 photos were taken, then within one week, she sent me a link to her website with my photos uploaded. The best part was that then, she sent me a cd, with all the pics on it. Thus - I didn't have to pay those huge pic fees that I have with the professional photographers that I have used in the past. You can simply print them out from the cd or send them to Walgreens to pick up. I am telling you - Check her out! I know numerous people that have used her now as everyone I know keeps recommending her. Best of luck!
