Family Friendly Hotels in San Antonio

My husband and I are taking a trip to San Antonio for Spring Break with our 3 kids, ages 6, 14, and 17. We'll be going to Seaworld, Six Flags, and Riverwalk. We're looking for a family-friendly resort which is close to those attractions. A lot of hotels we looked at have double beds in a standard room. We need at least 2 queens plus a roll-away. If anyone has anyone feedback it will be greatly appreciated!

If they have a Comfort Inn Suites, I would highly recommend them. I just took my 6 children on a trip across the country, and when we had to stay in a hotel, we stayed in this chain. They are newer, very clean, nicely appointed, and not very expensive at all. They have a full breakfast in the mornings. Also, one had snacks at night in the lobby, which we took upstairs for when we were playing board games. We'll stay in this chain from now on anytime we travel and need a hotel.

Hyatt Regency Hotel is awesome, pricey but great! Lazy river, a couple pools, play ground, walking trail, and 2 seconds from Sea World. Also we stayed at the Omni right on the Riverwalk last year with our 3 year old and loved it too. The kids get a backpack of goodies when you check in and on one night they had a movie, Bolt, and popcorn down at the pool for the kids.

I haven't been to San Antonio in a long time. That being said, my family doesn't really stay in hotels anymore. We stay in vacation rentals, which turn out to be cheaper. Here is a Web site I use: www.vrbo.com. There was also a commercial during the Superbowl that had Chevy Chase. I think it was www.homeaway.com. Try these and see what you can find. I found a great house in Chicago for about $79 a night. We had a garage, backyard, full kitchen, and laundry. It was great!

I don't know how much this will help since I live in San Antonio near both theme parks and have no need to stay in a hotel, but it seems a good choice if you haven't already ruled it out would be the Marriott (there are two to choose from) on Hwy 151 and Wiseman. It is right across from Sea World and 151 is the easiest route to get to the Riverwalk (if you stay there of course). However if you plan on spending more time at Six Flags then you might consider a hotel closer to it on Loop 1604 near the La Cantera shopping mall. Hope this helps a little.

This place MADE our vacation! We could have just stayed here and been perfectly content.
Every night they have an activity for the kids, Friday night they have S'mores around the campfire, they have a lazy river with a real beach, the staff is amazing. I can't say enough about the place.
We will most definately return and will emphasize utilizing the resort more for the activities. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Also, have you seen the special educational events for Sea World?
We got to go in an hour early, meet Shamu (or whatever his name is) get a tour, a t-shirt and totally beat the crowd! Your kids would get more out of it (we were a little pre-mature and over anxious to get some family vacation time, our son was only 2) as the categories are broken up by age group.

Have fun, I'm JEALOUS!

I highly recommend the Hyatt Hill Country Resourt but it is extremely pricy. They have a heated pool and play ground. It will probably still be too cold to use their lazy river. They are located basically across the street from Sea World and close to Six Flags. You would have to drive downtown for the river and Alamo for which parking can be a pain. If you plan on spending most of your time downtown at the riverwalk, I would recommend staying somewhere there.

It sounds like a great trip. Have fun.

My parents are tour guides in SA, so I called them to ask your question. Not a great answer, as there are TONS of hotels here, and these three places you're going are not really close to eachother.

Dad suggested the Motel 6 on I-10 just outside loop 1604 (cheap).
He also said that the Drury Inn on the corner of I-10 & 1604 (just inside the loop) is nicer. He said that these two hotels are about 10 minutes to Seaworld, 15-20 minutes to the Riverwalk, and you can see Fiesta Texas from these hotels.

He said that sometimes Hotels.com can give you a deal, but suggested that you call hotel management to try to broker a deal too. Spring break will be full, so sometimes trying both ways to get a room will be your best bet.

Good luck. There are always places downtown by the Riverwalk, but during spring break that might be noisy & pricey. No cheap grocery store or cheap shopping nearby. If you get a place off of I-10 & 1604 area, you'll be close also to an HEB, eating, Target, etc. There's not much by Seaworld, last time I went there 10 years ago. Of course, I'm sure that's changed, but a place by Seaworld, in my opinion, will be far from Fiesta & far from Downtown.

Don't forget to go to the Alamo if there's time (downtown). The Buckhorn Museum is a great place to go for lunch (downtown). There, you have to pay to go into the museum, but if you just go for lunch you can still see a lot of the deer and taxidermied animals on the wall. I hear that the Ripleys Museum is neat too, but I've never been (also downtown). The Pearl Brewery has free tours Saturday mornings, if that sounds like fun. I think they're at 10am & 12noon. Never been, again, but my mom does the tour every Sat morning. At the Pearl, there's a local farmers market, selling fresh veggies/fruits, plus homemade jams, soaps, jarred olives, etc. The Pearl is near 281 & Josephine.

Have fun!

we usually stay at Drury Inn they have free breakfast and a kid friendly dinner. The food is great and has all the favoriates for kids. Even cocktails for the adults free popcorn and soft drinks. So worth it. They have suites that are huge with 2 queens and a kitchenette and a living room with a sofa and chair the sofa has a bed also.

we stayed at the Red Roof Inn downtown riverwalk last fall, and it was great--very affordable, pool and free breakfast, you can walk to the riverwalk, alamo, children's museum, or catch one of those tourist trolley buses right outside the hotel. we got a great deal through expedia (hotel sale+coupon), so it was only $80/nt. the proximity to everything was important to us, since DD still naps, so we were in and out of the hotel a few times a day. we stayed in a standard room, but it's worth asking if they have something bigger, or, at those prices, you could get 2 adjoining rooms. Have fun!

We have stayed at both Homewood Suites off of I-10 (closer to Six Flags and a not so bad drive to the Riverwalk) and off of 1604 and Stone Oak. I believe roll-aways are available. Not a resort, but a big plus is the breakfast buffet and weekday evening snacks / drinks. Drury Inn is expecially close to Six Flags, as is the Westin Resort. Seaworld is maybe 15-20 min. from all of these hotels. Also, newly opened is the Marriott resort in NE San Antonio - beautiful but further away.
