How about...a PUPPY! LOL..sorry I couldnt resist!
Hi ladies...
For the past couple of years, we have always put a "family" gift from santa under the Christmas tree to open Christmas morning. In the past, we have done a Wii plus games, a family trip to Disneyland. I have a 12 year old son plus a 6 month old son and would like to continue this tradition. Any suggestions??????
Thank you
Update: My husband & I have talked about getting a puppy, so that could be a possibility. Is there anyone that has given a puppy as a gift, and how did you handle it? Keep him/her in another room then just let em out, just wrap up dog items for the kids to unwrap??
Thank you for all the suggestions. I think we have decided on a trampoline :)

If you decide on a puppy, I would wrap up puppy items (dish & book on training a puppy) and actually get the puppy after the holidays when it is less stressful for a puppy- and you.
A trip to the Grand Canyon and railroad may be a good family gift or zoo membership or tickets to a Cardinals game, etc.
Hmmm...
Perhaps passes to a community center where they can go swimming
tickets to a museum
A gift card for an indoor water park if you have on in your neighborhood
My perspective, from someone who has volunteered with many dog rescue groups, is to PLEASE not adopt a dog to give as a gift. The time is stressful for a new family member, and the animal may not understand your expectations, causing a hard time for you as well. An idea we give is to wrap a collar or a bag of dog treats, along with a certificate to go shopping for your new pet when things calm down in mid-January.
As for a family gift, I love that idea. My family does that, too. Some years we go to the Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium. That is a FANTASTIC family day! We always go on New Year's morning and have the place pretty much to ourselves.
