False????

Ok, this may be too much info but I am 39 weeks pregnant with my second. First was a scheduled C-section because the baby's head was way too big and he was never going to engage (plus he was breech). Ok, so on to the TMI part...I passed my mucus plug about 48 hours ago. Last night I started having bloody show and thru this morning it was quite a bit of bloody show. No more blood through the day, except just a few minutes ago a small amount of darker blood. Around 4AM I began having what I am pretty sure are false labor pains (braxton hicks) but these contractions have been going ALL DAY at anywhere from 7-14 minutes apart for 20-30 seconds and they are very painful. But they aren't getting closer together, lasting longer, etc. Ok, so my question is, since these seem to be early labor or false labor contractions but I've passed my mucus plug and have had the bloody show, how much longer before the false labor converts to real labor??? I know it's not an exact science and the numbers are all over the place but I wanted to guage anyone else's experience with this to see...any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

What can I do next?

I had early/false labor for two weeks, water never broke, couldn't tell you about the mucas plug or not...but you could go anytime now, or wait another week...pesky little angels aren't they!

Are you KIDDING ME? False labor? I imagine by now you are in hospital, maybe even delivered already. Just because they're not seeming too much closer doesn't mean you're not in full on labor! go go go get some help!

Please, go to labor and delivery ASAP! I had a very similar experience with a 34 week breech baby. I waited around thinking it would pass and we were in serious trouble by the time I got to my doc.

Good luck!

My sister just had her 4th, and had false labor 4 times before finally being induced 4 days after her due date. She lost her mucus plug a week before being induced. So, who knows? Every pregnancy is different.
On another hand, if you at all are able to try at VBAC, I strongly urge you to! I did a VBAC with my 2nd, and it was great! Much shorter recovery, no scar, and it felt alot more natural! Whatever you choose, congrats! Having 2 is great!

I have to agree with everyone else. I wouldn't call that false labor. Timing does not matter so much. I have contractions 2 minutes a part for several days before I had any of my kids. I am kind of surprised that they haven't scheduled your for a C-section for a week ago.

My very first labor, the water broke at about 9 on a Tuesday morning, and then there were two days of dry birth, with erratic contractions, off and on, all day and night, and the baby was born on Thursday evening, no complications otherwise, 7 lb baby girl. Long ago.
Best wishes, and hang in there.

I am VERY much into natural and alternative healing, but please don't try VBAC with a breech baby. You can crush the cord very easily by trying this and create a problem you don't want to have.

Please call your doctor immediately. I know it's a holday weekend, but you need medical attention. If your doctor doesn't respond, go to the emergency room where you are scheduled to deliver.

Bloody show is a good indication of oncoming labor, but it could still be a week away. I have 3, and each was different (labor began the night after bloody show w/ the first; labor began about a week after bloody show w/ the 2nd; not much of bloody show at all w/ the 3rd). It is very possible that these "false labor" contractions are doing their job (dilating you), even if they're sporadic and not hurting. Go for walks to help encourage stronger contractions. Good luck! I hope you're able to do a VBAC.

I was going to tell you that I was convinced I was having false labor with my first child because it didn't seem to be going by the book. It was Christmas morning and I didn't want to disturb anyone's holiday. I was still 10 days from my due date. Called the doctor. He said head to the hospital. My false labor resulted in a baby girl born at 6:40 that evening after 16 hours of labor, which I thought was a quick labor since our child birth instructor said to be prepared for a 24 hour labor.

My advice would have been to get to the hospital and to call your doctor. Congratulations on the new baby! But you didn't say if you had your vaginal delivery?

My warning to go to the hospital was always the bloody show, even with the contractions not being regular. Good luck!

If you have not already you should call your doctor. If you have a bloody show labor is not far off. I did have a VBAC but had to find a doctor willing to allow me to try. The delivery was much easier on my but difficult for my daughter. She weighed over 8 lbs but still spent four days in ICU beginning as a precaution and then as a slight complication. Remember, this is just the beginning of your child's life and what is most important that he or she arrive safely.
God Bless

It sounds to me like you are in the early stages....my first pregnancy I lost my plug in the morning...like 5AM and worked all day, went to Starbucks after work, and my water broke at 4:45PM....my labor was fast from that point though. That is when I put it together that I was actually in labor all day, just felt uncomfortable and moved slow. Each person is different. They told me that after I lost my plug it could be three days.....I would expect things to move along anytime. For reassurance, I would call the doctor to make sure all sounds good.

Hi M.,

I was going to tell you to PLEASE direct these questions to your doctor! I would hate for anything to go wrong because the advice you received on a message board was not accurate. But now I see the crisis has passed and you are a happy new mama for the 2nd time. Congratulations!!!

Sounds to me you're pretty close. Be sure to call your OB/midwife to keep them up to date. They may want to see if you're dilating or not. Do you believe you've broken your water? It doesn't always show up as a huge gush and could be leaking slowly. You'll also want to have that checked out. Sometimes this could go on for a few days. Once you have the OK from your birth specialist and you're not in true labor, just rest as much as you can. I'm sure everything is progressing very well. God Bless!
