I wrote on here a couple of days ago about my son having a yeast infection that spread on his stomach and back.. Well come to find out this doctor said that it is ezcema. Can anyone help. I am putting cephill on him and a precription.. How long does this last? what worked best for your child. and any suggestions would help. thanks
Ok, I know that not every child and every case is the same. I just wanted to share my experience and give you one more little suggestion to try if others fail. When my son was about 18 mos. he was diagnosed with 'ezcema' because he had small bumps around his waistline and they started spreading all over his body. Well come to find out (through my own trial and error experimentation) he was having a reaction to washes and lotions containing petroleum and petroleum by-products (like mineral oil, etc.). When I started using higher end products the problem stopped!

Hi! My daughter has ezcema, also. She is 6 and has had it basically since she was born. The doctor says she should grow out of it but sometimes it gets really bad. Cephill really worked for her. Also, especially in the winter time only giving her a bath every other day helped. The one thing I did find that didn't really work for her was Elidel. It made it worse in the long run. In the winter it gets worse but it does get better in the summer.

I have a 17 year old that has had problems with ezcema for about 15 years. Things that help are mild soaps for washing and staying away from harsh chemicals.

My five year old has eczema, and got his first outbreak when he was around one, I think...
I don't remember the name of the prescription lotion that we use during an "outbreak", but it does clear up within a few days. The occurences are rare and few in between as he has gotten a little older. I have had to watch which soaps I use on him during bathtime. According to my doctor, the best is Dove bar soap for Sensitive Skin. I can't use all those fancy baby soaps, although I have been able to use the lavender calming soap here lately and haven't had any problems. I bought it because I just love the smell of it, I haven't noticed it calming him any....he is five and his brother is 3!!! We would need something stronger than soap to slow them down =) I like them that way tho, they are healthy and fun.
According to my knowledge, this is a common thing, and in our instance, the outbreaks don't happen too often. I believe Dove Soap is the reason for him having healthier skin today.
Good Luck and don't fret too much about it. Find what works best and use the advice of your doctor.

Hi there, my daughter has exzema. The only lotion that I found that works for her is Aveeno baby lotion. The trim is dark blue. Not the lavender one. Anyway, her prescription (Desonide) works great but I had a friend who's little boy now has cataracts from his prescription (i don't know what it was but they are in talk with the a lawyer), I only use it when she has a bad breakout. I found with my daughter the Johnson and Johnson bath stuff caused more of a breakout for her. Don't buy into that whole Dreft thing either. (unless its working for her). I have tried everyone out there and my mother insisted it was the laundry detergent.... I can use anything but the detergent that is free and all.... wierd I know... But her exzema is fine with regular Tide, Cheer and All.... I just don't use the bleach ones on her. Anyway, for my daughters bathing soaps.... I use Huggies.... Its in an orange bottle.... Anyway, your child may not respond well to these but just wanted to throw those out there!! Good luck.

Eczema doesn't really go away. It just has peak seasons like allergies do. Both of my boys have it. they both use elidel...it's a great lotion/steroid that your doc can prescribe. Apply generously often 2-3 times a day depending on how sever the eczema is.

My son had a bad case of excema a couple of months ago, and I took him to see the Dr. She wrote him a script for a rx cream that contains a small amount of steroid and I put in on 2x a day for a week. Within 3 days, it was almost completely gone. She also recommended Aveeno wash and lotion. I don't care for the lotion, so I use Soothing naturals. I use the Aveeno cream body wash in combination with a bath poof. I think the bath poof is WONDERFUL because it helps to loosen the dead skin. Aidan occasionally gets a spot or two of excema, and his DR. said to simply use the cream for a few days if necessary. The cream can't be used continuously because there is steroids in it. Oh, and I also try to keep my son in very loose fitting clothes and try to make sure that if he sweats while playing, I change his clothes often.

We have made several changes. First we have a special tub of lotion for our two children who battle excema. We use a mixture of a tube of Eucerin calming cream and a tube of hydroquartozone cream. This is applied all over once a day. We put hydroquartazone cream on the areas that there are break outs once a day when they are broke out. Our son was worse so we had him alergy tested and found out that citric food were a minor allergy that set off reaction so for now we have cut out all acidic foods from his diet and the doctors feel he will grow out of this allergy so every 6 months we try some in his diet to see. We also have special covers for people with allergies that go completely around their mattresses and their pillows. This helps cut down on issues with dust mites and allergens that get into those items. I find as long as we use the special cream once daily the breakouts have become very minimal. When their skin is very normal we just use the calming cream. I have also heard that aquaphore helps with this too. I would keep a journal of what things are like in his atmosphere when he has his breakouts. Good luck.

My son has had problems with excema since he was less than 2 months old. The best thing to do is to keep him well lubricated. I apply the walmart brand of eucerin frequently to keep his skin moist. When he does get a flare up, I use Elidel or a prescription steroid depending on the severity of the outbreak. He only gets a bath every other day and gets the lotion applied right after to seal in the moisture. I use the Aveeno fragrance free soap. Generally he only has trouble during the cold weather, so I am anxiously awaiting the warm weather.

I have excema and so does one of my kids as well as my niece. We all use Arbonne.. they use the baby line, I use pieces of it. The problem with some products is they have mineral oil which helps short term. It seals the skin and doesn't let it breath right! I have tried a lot of prescription and store things.. nothing has worked like this for me!
You can PM me about a sample for free. I hate to hear of little ones with this problem as I know from my child and myself. Here is my site to look at it.. on the product and biz page is a baby with excema and a after using Arbonne pic. www.passion4more.myarbonne.com

All 3 of my kids battled really bad eczema during teething. Best way to cope is the following:
1. Minimize bathing temps. Warm water drys them out.
2. Lots of A&D lotion to help keep area moist.
3. Elidel lotion. Took my daughter to the dermo. The insurance company will not approve for use on an infant. She gave me many samples to use for this reason. I was hesitant to use it because of the controversy with it and the insurance company. I began using it on my son because it got so bad. I had immediate results. It is the ONLY thing that has worked. The reddness was noticably different immediately. Try it if you can. I wish I would have used it right off the bat.
4. Elidel in morning and night. A&D at all other changes. Works like a charm for me. Clears it in a few days.
Vaseline too slimy...washes really made no difference...cetaphil lotion was a waste...diet changes too unpredictable. Everything else was useless for me.
Hope this helps. I ripped my hair out trying to find something that worked. Diet changes, lotions, etc. Nothing worked that the Ped said. This did for me. Best of luck.

Hi L.,
I hate ezcema! I have had it since I was a baby and suffered every year. I went to many doctors, used a million perscriptions and it was still annoyingly present! I finally found out that chemicals can make it so much worse, defeating the Rx. I switch to an awesome wellness company 2 years ago, and now it all gone. I havent had an outbreak for over a year and a half. My son is 8 months and he hasnt had it either. I believe that the problem can be fixed if you just get to the heart of it! Those stupid chemicals that just irritate the skin. I can pass on the company if you are interested in getting rid of that aweful ezcema for your poor little guy!!

Hi L., my oldest son who is eight also suffers from Eczema. It is usually on his knees and elbows, sometimes his legs. His Dr. said he may outgrow it, or he may have it the rest of his life. I use Dove or Ivory unscented (white) soap for his showers, and if he does take a bath no bubblebath. Nothing with a fragrance. I also only use Tide (regular) on his clothes with no fabric softener. His Eczema is usually the worst in fall and in winter when the weather is dry.
I have found a great product that works called Absorbase. It is made by Carolina Medical Products. I once purchased it off of Ebay but you can buy it direct from the company. If you do a search for Absorbase you can read more about the product. The cost is $8.50 per 5lb. jar/tub, with a five dollar shipping fee. Once they receive your check, it gets shipped imediately (super fast). Here is their address: SEND A PERSONAL CHECK OR MONEY ORDER PAYABLE TO CAROLINA MEDICAL PRODUCTS CO., PO BOX 147, FARMVILLE, NC 27828. (This is a wonderful product, I've recommended it to so many people and it's great for us Mom's who wash our hands constantly. A little goes a longggg way!) Hope I've been helpful, J. C.

We also use Aquaphor which is a think lotion, sort of reminds me of vasoline. They also say when giving them a bath, do not wash them up until the end. Wash him and then get him out of the tub right away. Something with them sitting in the water with the soap makes it flare up more. I hope this helps.

Me and my son has it and I put baby oil in the baby tub when we take a bath. It helps. depending on how bad it is I might have to do that and vasoline. I use to go to a skin doctor. He advised me to stop using soap with fragrance, and to stop taking really hot showers and baths. I now use ivory or non scented soap. It helps a lot. Sometimes you have to try diferent items before you find the one that works for you. Hope this helps.

Yes I have something for you! It is called RoBathol ! It is a LIGHT bath oil and I have been using it on my severe eczema for 5 years now! Actually I don't have outbreaks anymore and before I was COVERED head to toe with itchy and bleedy scabs due to my scratching. I was miserable and now my skin is clear from eczema! Best of all it's all natural, no side effects or harsh chemicals.
I have used all kinds of prescriptions and they work for awhile until your body gets used to them, and then they have to presecribe higher and higher doses...in the meatime spending lots of money on meds!
You can buy it online and I guarentee it's worth it ! If not I will buy the unused portion from you. :-)
This is sooooo gentle it is even recommended for newborns ! A dermotologist told me about it the first time and I serioulsy can't tell you how wonderful it is.
Blessings.

My son had ezcema since he was 3 months old. We had to take him to the dermatologist in Twinsburg Dr. Cohn...awesome doctor...she prescribed him a stronger cortizone cream that you can't get over the counter....we used cetaphill and believe me, it doesn't work....she also prescribed a moiturizing lotion that we used after every bath. His ezcema went away within a few weeks of using these things. We have to do maintanence..keep him lotioned and he does breakout in the winter months. .....you didn't say how old your child was...if he is old enough Elidel really works as well but they have to be at least 2 yrs old. Oh I almost forgot, I use an ezcema cream that I use daily on his face called Gentle Naturals in a green tube...it works....email if you want to see the doc or have anyother questions!
Also allergies go hand in hand with ezcema. My pediatritian told me that. So if he is stuffy constantly or sneezing or has eyes that are itchy you might want to get the checked as well. I give my son Zyrtec once daily and it helps his allergies from dogs and seasonal stuff.

Hi L.,
we have been battling eczema since my son was 2 months old he is now 13 months old and we just recently found out he is allergic to cats and dogs which i have both of so i am in the process of finding new homes for them in hopes that this will help! ok so heres what i know and have tried for my son first off he and anyone that will be in contact with him should start wearing cotton only avoid wool at all costs, use laundry detergent thats free of dyes and perfume also don't use dryer sheets either,do not use any products on his skin that contains alcohol in it as it dries out the skin, taking short baths helps also my son gets a bath every three days(unless hes really dirty)if i give him one everyday he flares up real bad!I have tried every creme lotion and oil out there! right now i use dove unscented bar soap for his bath then i cover him in aquaphor and use his hydrocortisone creme on his really bad spots.he also has benadryl for when hes itching.his doctor even put him on a 10 day oral steriod to get it under control once.Im not trying to scare you my son just has a bad case of it and it can be very frustating at times especially at night when he itches the most.I hope all my ramblings have helped a bit if you ever need someone to talk to you can message me. hope you find some relief soon! good luck!
