Eye Floaters

Hi,

I'm almost 50 years old, and I have been noticing floaters in my eyes. I'm not sure if I should visit an "ophthalmologist" or "retinal specialist" to check to see if I have retinal tears/detachment. I believe many people have this problem. May I have some suggestions? Who is a good doctor (from Arlington, TX)?

Thanks,
M.

I don't know if you need a retinal specialist or not. I see Dr. Williams at Texas Retina Associates on Randolph Mill just down from Cowboys Stadium. There are other doctors in this office as well.

I just see an opthalmologist and she's been very good at watching my floaters. She always reminds me to just watch out for "sparkles" or flashes of light as an indication for retinal detachment/tears. I don't have anyone to recommend in your area but I think most opthalmologists would be able to give you a thorough eye exam. I get floaters all the time and although annoying you get used to seeing them.

Drs. Kleiman & Evangelista on Matlock. All associated with the clinic are excellent doctors.

They'll do retinal scans at the optometrist also, if you see a good one (the optometrist at the Lenscrafters in the Parks Mall is excellent). Dr. Murr on Pioneer pkwy is also excellent. I haven't seen any opthalmologists in the area to recommend. Good luck! :)
