my MIL passed away and we have all this OTC medication that we don't use but don't know what to do with. any ideas? it seems a waste to throw away, especially when some if it's not even opened. we are in vancouver, wa, if it matters. thanks!

-1/2 bottle trunature cranberry extract soft gels
-1/3 bottle of kirkland vitamin C (not chewable)
-1/3 bottle of kirkland calcium citrate
-3 unopened bottles of milk thistle from puritan's pride
-1 overly-full bottle of milk thistle from puritan's pride (i combined 2 opened ones)
-1.3 bottle of centrum
-unopened 5oz bottle of delsym dough suppressant (orange)
-almost full (less one dose) 5 oz bottle of delsym (grape)
-unopened box of pharmaton ginkoba tablets (108)
-4 foil packs of 18 tablets of pharmaton ginkoba
-18 tablets (in foil) of mucinex DM
-8 packets of normacol plus
-tube aspercream odor free
-tube equate triple antibiotic plus pain relief ointment
-tube hirudoid cream
-unopened tube hirudoid cream
-bottle L-Lysine 1000mg, vitamin world, approx 80 tablets
-cough syrup measuring spoon

You can take them to a pharmacy to have them destroyed, other than that I am not sure.

A local hospital recently had a day set aside for dropping of unused prescription and over the counter medicines. You might check with a local hospital. What ever you do, do not flush them. It pollutes the water supply because it cannot all be removed at the sewage processing plant.

My condolences to your family.

If there's a women's shelter nearby you might give them a call. Most organizations won't take opened meds, and many won't take unopened meds they haven't paid for themselves (for fear of someone spiking them)... but some that really depend on donations do.
