Experiences with Gel Nails

Just wondering about your experiences with gel nails. I've had them for almost two years, have loved them, get many compliments. Until last month I've had no problems. One separated and by the time my appointment, my 'real' was discolored under there, so the technician removed all the gel as well as a layer of part of the discolored area. Any experience with this? I'm wondering if I should 'take a break' and let my nails 'breathe.'

What can I do next?

I stick to acryllics! I personally think the Gel is over rated and way more expensive than we need to pay. :)

yes you should definitly take a break! you need to let your nails breathe and build some keratin (that is the protein hair and nails are made up of), I would get hydration therapy from nail tek. its a clear coat... its awesome!! anything from that nail line is great. it helps repair your nail bed.

You might have actually gotten a fungus. So if it does not clear up quickly, I would make sure you go to the doctor to get it taken care of. You probably just need to give them a little time to breathe and they will be fine. Are you going to a different place than usually? Some techs are sloppy and this can cause these problems.

Lettem be natural for a bit, and use Vicks on the one that seems virusey.

Give your nails a break and in the future try a no chip manicure. It's good for your nails and will make them grow quickly, then you'll have naturally beautiful nails!

Probably a good idea, it is very unhealthy for your nails to have nail polish on them all the time. Your nails literally can't breath.

Yes. You should give your nails a break for a few months & treat with an anit-fungal. I recommend Citrus Way Nail Solution; available OTC. Your manicurist should be grinding down your natural nail to avoid curvature & separation of gel & nail. This is how moisture gets between them creating the fungal & discoloration problem. I also recommend using Dr Bonner's Lavender Castile Soap (natural anti-fungal soap), you can pick this up in any drug store, when washing your hands & using a nail brush to clean under your artificial nails to help prevent infection. Hope this helps!!

That's happened to me before. Somehow mositure got under the gel and I got mildew on my nails, turning it black. I took off all wraps and gave my nails a few months rest. Your nails need to breathe.
