Hi N.!
I just had my son there in October 05. The staff was really, really good to me, the food was good. The security in the nursery was also very good. Overall, I had a nice experience there. The staff was accomodating and I was offered a lot of educational videos and pamphlets. I'm not sure how it was with your first child, but my other kids, I gave birth in the Grand Rapids, MN hospital. We gave birth in and stayed in the same room and had a whirlpool hot tub and I missed that. They no longer give out the big bags filled with baby offers and samples. I had heard on a daycare support board that it was because formula was offered in them and they felt it discouraged breast feeding. Ug. I missed it! Good luck and I hope all goes well for you.
I had my son there in July 2004, not a good experience. My delivery went great, and I had a wonderful nurse but afterwards was awful. We called for a nurse for pain pills, it took four hours to have someone come in. My son was jaundice and nobody noticed, and did not follow the orders of the doc to do a jaundice test. The clip was left on his belly button, we had to go back and have it removed, after we arrived at home, and we had to go everyday for four days to have his blood tested for levels of jaundice, this could of been avoided if he had received the proper care and test right away. We also had to ask for diapers and bedding. I had another friend who had a c section, she developed a infection because gauze was left inside. I would advise against it, but my experience could be different then others. Good luck....
Hi N.,
I haven't been to the hospital myself, but if you need a pediatrican, Dr. Rita Puri at Fairview Ridges in Burnsville is absolutely wonderful!!!! She treats the kids with soooooo much love and affection and has been there to answer all our questions, at any time.
Good luck with the baby.

I delivered my twins there a little over 2 years ago. Because I was expecting twins I had a few false allarms and everytime I was there was pleasant. I delivered in the OR (because of twins) and I liked the way the did that, you came up from the OR to the waiting area in the l&d area. The staff was great with me and my family. There was a great male nure there too. I would go there again if I was going to have another baby. The rooms were nice sized and comfortable. Good luck !
Hi N., my name is S. and I had my son in burnsville 2 1/2 years ago and I was very pleased with our stay there. THe pediatricians that cared for my son were excellent. I was even impressed with the "hospital food". Of course you are always going to have that one nurse who is old school and/or uptight. That was the case with one of my delivery nurses but we got through it ok. Over all My experience was good. Good luck with your, soon to be, new bundle of joy!
HI. I had my daughter at Ridges 2 years ago and it was great! In fact, I wrote a letter to the hospital thanking them because I was so impressed with the staff during my stay. It isn't the newest hospital in town so it isn't huge and fancy, but the rooms are certainly adequate sized and clean. The staff is AWESOME. The nurses are the best! And everyone from the volunteers to the food service people to the people who cleaned the room were pleasant and respectful. I am sure you will have a great experience there.
I've only used the Children's ER at Fairview Ridges and the doctor was great. My son had viral gastroenteritis and needed some IV fluids and they gave the correct diagnosis and medications. The nurses were a little rougher, but I've found that's true no matter where you go. You should have a good experience there. Good luck!
Hi N.!
I delivered our son 2 years ago at Ridges, and we had a terrific experience. My labor was very short (only 4 hours), but my L&D nurse was amazing! In fact, my friend had the same nurse when she delivered her second child. Her name is Connie, and she's great! The only suggestion I have is to pre-register as soon as your OB/GYN gives you the forms! I waited to send mine in and ended up delivering before they received my forms. Then the admissions people tried to get me to answer insurance questions while I was in transition!
Anyway - the recovery nurses were wonderful as well. I chose to try breastfeeding, and they weren't as helpful or supportive as I might have liked. I was really nervous and unsure about breastfeeding, so I'm sure me & my hormones didn't help.
They have a great room service program so you can select each meal, and I thought the food was actually really good. I was happy to be home and eat 'real' food, but it wasn't your typical hospital food.
It took forever to get the water hot in the shower, but that wasn't too big of a deal.
All in all, it was a great experience and I'm looking forward to (hopefully) another delivery there! Hope my ramblings help out some!
Good luck, and congratulations!
Hi N.. I had my daughter there 18 months ago and it was a great hospital! The doctors and nurses where very nice and helped with what ever I asked for.
