Expecting #2...double Stroller? Double Jogger? Hm...

Hi there -
We are expecting our second baby in the spring. At that point, the first will be 2.5 years old. We have an old heavy jogger but I think it will be hard to use with a baby in the Ergo. I thought about getting a new jogger, but now we're undecided about whether to go the jogger route or double stroller route when the second one comes along.
We walk a lot, but the car is still a reality, too, so there will be times when we need to put the carseat right onto the stroller.
I think our son will still be riding at that point, so want him to be comfortable, too.
Suggestions?
Thanks.

What can I do next?

My oldest was 2.5 when I had my second. A friend gave us a Joovy Caboose that has worked really well for us. They make an ultralight model and you can put the car seat on it. However, if I were going to buy one. I would probably get the Baby Jogger City Mini double stroller. It's pretty light weight for a double and folds easily. I think you can also buy an attachment so you can use the infant carrier.

We bought a double and LOVE it. My husband curses under his breath at all of the people who bring in side by side double stollers into stores or restaurants where they clearly cannot fit...and are TOTALLY oblivious to the fact that there is anyone else in this world except them and their children. LOL

LOVE this one, after haivng every kind of stroller, etc. This can convert to a sit and stand. We are pregnant with #4 and our babysitter takes her newborn with our 3 kids out and this stroller rocks it.

My friend has the double BOB and it's nice....lightweight, but once again, she pushes it through a farmer's market and get's frsutrated that no one is getting out of HER way.

I have a Jane powertwin double stroller (front/back). It is expensive- but it was worth it to me (I got it when preggers with my second- she's 3 1/2 now and I now use it for my one year old so it's had a lot of use!). It has a few drawbacks (lack of cupholders is one- but that's an easy fix), but overall, it is amazing. It's really easy to push and steer (front wheel can lock for jogging or swivel for easy steering) and it is actually lighter and narrower than my old single stroller. For me it was the best compromise between a jogger and regular double (I knew I didn't want a side by side). The car seat in it can be a little bit of a challenge with another kid, but it depends on the seat and just figuring out how it sits best- it's not made for the infant seat, but mine fit in fine and felt very secure. Like I said, it's expensive- but it has been my only stroller for almost 4 years except a $20 umbrella that I use every once in while.
Good luck finding what you need.

I have the Bumbleride Indie Twin and I really like it. My son is 3 and my daughter is now 8 months. It seems expensive, but it comes with the infant seat adapter, whereas the BOB you have to buy that separately. It's made for light jogging but if you jog a lot the BOB may be better. I bought a double BOB and I actually returned it because it just felt too big & was really hard to get in my car (nearly impossible). The Bumbleride folds up smaller and although it's only an inch narrower it feels a lot smaller when you're pushing it. If you plan to take it to the mall or something it's a lot easier to maneuver. It also depends on which infant seat you have. Make sure whatever you get is compatible with your infant seat. But I agree that you should find a place where you can test them out, try your infant seat in it, and try folding & unfolding them before you buy. Hope that helps!

i had #2 when my son was 19 months old and i really put a lot of research into finding a double stroller. got the baby jogger city mini. the truth is, we use it but not that much. lot so times when we go to the park together, my son prefers to walk because he;ll be running around anyways. when we walk around the neighborhood he also prefers to walk however he does get tired, then want my husband to carry him on the shoulders. i think if i lived in my old neighborhood, santa monica and i was alone a lot i would get more use out of the double. it's true the older one at 2 , 2.5 and 3 still need a stroller but not all the time - so i was thinking maybe a sit and stand would've been better. however, if you're alone with the kids a lot then a double is probably necessary. that's just my opinion . hope it helps

Double jogger! I have the BOB Revolution - yes, expensive but worth every penny! I have never used it for jogging (which it is supposed to be awesome for), but use it every single day for walks, errands, etc. Much easier to maneuver than a regular type of double stroller. My boys are 21mo apart and now 18mo and 3.25yrs. I started with a SitNStand and hated it. Too hard to maneuver, heavy, and the toddler could escape the straps of the seat. I was given a very old double jogger and instantly loved it, knew the BOB was going to be worth it. If you can afford it make the splurge, or do some research to see if other brands have infant seat adaptors.

We loved our Bob Revolution Duallie.! My son just turned 2 when our daughter was born. I used the Duallie as my everyday stroller until my daughter was 2 years old and my son was 4. Now we use the single Revolution and one sits in the seat and the other sits in the foot rest or they take turns walking.

I didn't have too many problems fitting the Duallie in doors or even through aisles. It just takes a little more practice and steering, we took ours everywhere from the mall to the amusement parks. Some of the aisles in the stores can be a little tricky, but that never bothered me.

As far as other people who got upset or felt put out by the fact that I had a double wide stroller, that also never bothered me. I figured that either they didn't have children, or didn't have children close together in age, so they didn't know what I was going through...and quite frankly, any irritation was on them. I would do my best to make sure that there was space around us for people to pass. I would also pull on the side if we were going too slow to let people pass. Really, it's all about comfort and safety for both you and your children. Some kids are okay sitting behind each other in the stroller, mine were not. And I HATED pushing what I called "The Limosine" stroller. I had a Graco Double stroller and it was a pain in the rear to push and a pain in the rear to get in and out of the car. With the Bob Duallie you just pull the cord and lift it into the back of the car (or in our case minivan). Then you pick it up by the cord and pull it open when you need it.

The Bob is so easy to use. My Dad especially liked being able to push the kids in it because it didn't hurt his back and because when people saw him pushing it, they moved out of his way (which is great because he was legally blind at the time).

We actually didn't get our Duallie until my daughter was about 3 months old. Until then I wore her in her Maya Wrap while I pushed our son in our single Revolution.

I would go to a store like USA Baby and test drive all the strollers before you buy. That was the one store that had the best selection of double strollers. If you decide to get the Bob, sign up with REI.com and wait until Labor Day or Memorial Day weekends to buy it. That's when they go on sale for 20% off which is the best price I have ever found on them. You can order it online and have it free shipped to your local store. I think I paid $525 total for the Duallie and the cupholder/key accessory bar. Reg price would have been almost $600 for both.

You should also look for used items on craigslist. The Bobs go fast on CL, so you would need to act fast. But you can save a bunch of money on it that way.

The BOB rocks! We only have 1 but we LOVE our BOB jogger. It's such a smooth ride for you and for baby whether your just navigating residential streets, busy (and often uneven) city sidewalks, or jogging. I've seen the double and have heard equally good things about it. And, with the add ons , you can have one in an infant car seat facing you and one sitting up/facing forward. I do like the idea of the front/back set-up because it just looks so much easier for narrow spaces but I don't know anyone that actually uses one.

We also have the BOB Revolution double stroller. It's the only one we have for our 19 month old twins, now that they are out of the infant seats and can no longer use the snap n' go. You can get an adapter to attach an infant seat...I only wish you could attach two, but you can't. In your case, it would work just fine. Our 6 year old sometimes sits on the front. It is SO easy to steer and handle. I LOVE it! It didn't take me long to get the hang of getting it in and out of the van. It's heavy, but not too heavy. I have a Honda Odyssey and have to lift it up to get it in...and I'm no spring chicken. We thought of getting a second back up stroller, but haven't really needed it. We got ours at REI during their annual anniversary sale...I think it was 20% off. I can see using this stroller until they are 5 or 6 years old...at least for things like amusement parks.

anything that is comfortable, affordable, and useful to you as long as it's not the DOUBLE-WIDE stroller. They are awesome for the kids to see everything, but honestly they could see everything if one is in front of the other seated, they just have to turn their heads. Think about shopping, the zoo, sea world, etc......? All those people and they will all look at you with an awful face because you are taking up all the road with that monster thing. That is just my opinion and again, I don't have 2 kids in a stroller nor twins. I have two kids too far apart to have that ordeal. Good luck and Congrats.

I have the Baby Jogger City Mini double stroller and it's been great. Even though it's called 'jogger' it's not made for jogging. So if you are a runner I would recommend getting the double BOB. I have the single BOB and it's great, but heavy (I can only imagine how heavy the double must be). The only problem with the City Mini is that the infant car seat adapter is expensive, a little awkward and the stroller didn't fit in my trunk (Volvo S40) with the adapter on. I took the adapter off when the baby was about 4 months and now it fits just fine (it's relatively light too - I think about 26 pounds). The basket is a little small underneath, but I'm able to pack it pretty full when we go to the farmers market, park... My boys are 2 1/2 years apart and they are both comfortable in it.
Go to the Right Start or somewhere similar and test them out - fold them, put your 2 year old in them... see what you like.
Congratulations!
