I had the evenflo exersaucer and the fisher-price jumperoo and we loved them both. The exersaucer can be used younger, but they love the jumperoo. I would definately get a jumperoo!!
What jumpers and/or exersaucers do you recommend for a 5 month old? Do you have both? I would love to get something he can use for a while...Thanks!
Thanks for all of the great advice! We ended up with the Evenflo Triple Fun Exersaucer and our son loves it so far.

Hi,
My son was a jumping bean from just a couple of months on. So we just started with the jumperoo and never used an exersaucer. We bought the Fisher Price Rainforest one because it has a lot of different toys on it. Also, I liked that the head rest was a litle more supportive since my son started going in it at 3.5 months. Once he started crawling and then walking, he wasn't as interested but still at 14 months, we occasionally use it if he is really active at the time. They are great to put in the bathroom with you while you take a shower.
We had the fisher-price rainforest jumperoo and my son LOVED it! He would spent an hour in it if we let him!
We had a jumperoo....our daughter LOVED it!!
It has different height adjustments. Good Luck!
my son loved the even flo exersaucer. He wasn't much for the jumparoo, I think your kid either loves jumping or doesn't. I actually took him to babies rus with me and put him in each one on the floor to see which he liked best.
We have an evenflo exersaucer that can be set up to rock or you can put the "feet" down so it is stable. My daughter loves it. We call it her "command center". I have read various things about problems walking with one of these toys, but I personally feel that if you don't put your baby in it 24/7, she will be fine. My baby has plenty of other toys and floor time that allow her to be on the move. The exersaucer is great for us while we make dinner or fold laundry or something like that. My daughter is 9 mo. old and still using her exersaucer.
I have the rainforest jumparoo by fisherprice - i think. I got it at wallmart. My son loves it. We dont have an execauser too. My son turned 1 today and still loves playing nicely for me in the jumparoo everyday so I can shower and get some work done :)
I liked the saucers that had the full area circle on the bottom. The seemed more stable.

We had both with my son!! We bought the Evenflo - Exersaucer Mega. As others have said we often took the it with us (visiting grandparents, etc) and got lots of use out of it. Importantly, with most brands, the toys snap in and out so we simply bought extras and kept switching them out so that he never got bored. As for the jumper my son LOVED jumping and spinning in it (we bought the Evenflo Exersaucer Smartsteps Jump & Go which has music and toys attached) ... often he would bounce himself to sleep (this never happened in the exersaucer).
I must admit that once my son started walking (and he did walk early @ 9mo1d old) he wasn't really interested any more. BUT I used both of them to keep my child contained while I got things done. Often I'd have the exersaucer in the kitchen while I was making dinner or cleaning up or in the bathroom while I showered. Or I'd put him in the jumper while I was doing laundry or vacuuming (I felt it was a pain to move around so I left that in one place). My son refused to sit in a bouncy seat or a swing so these were truly lifesavers for me.
If you're worried about cost, look towards friends or possibly Craig's List to get a "gently used" version. Good Luck!!
I wouldn't get both as they are expensive and there is such a short window of time that the little ones will actually use the item. As previously stated, once babies figure out how to roll, crawl and sit-up by themselves, they lose interest in objects that confine them. I would recommend a saucer since the toys may hold the baby's interest a little longer than simply bouncing.
All babies are different, so if you can borrow a friend's saucer before buying that may be the way to go. It may take several times in the saucer before the baby feels comfortable or the baby may never like it at all. I've had four children and only the first one truly liked the saucer for more than a few months.

I recommend both. We had a Jumperoo (by Fisher Price, I think) and my daughter loved it. We also had an Evenflo Exersaucer, which she also loved. They serve different purposes, and we got a ton of use out of both of them, so I highly recommended both. They are a bit pricey, but well worth the money in my opinion.
I remember this dilemma with our son, because we wanted both, but didn't want to spend the money on two new ones. I searched and searched for used ones, but ended up doing this: I bought a new Fisher Price Rainforest Jumper, which he started using when his neck was good and strong and he was ready to bounce. It had lots of extras, colorful and musical. We borrowed a exersaucer from a friend. He never liked the jumper, in the 10 months or so we kept it up, he never spent more than a few minutes in it. It was the exersuacer that kept us sane....and we used to fold that sucker flat and bring it with us on trips even. It also had a round base, as mentioned below.
I know each kid is different and some just adore the jumpers (they even have some that fit on the doorframe), but I would lean towards the exersaucer. he used it until about 12-13 months, and then just wanted to be up and crawling, standing, not stuck in the same position.
We had botg but got the exersaucer too late I think he would of liked it if we got it sooner. I know the baby I watch loves his baby einstine one he is 15 months and still play with the toys it also turns into a table toy too!
Exerxaucers and jumpers aren't made to be used for too long. Until about 1yr or so maybe just over but as soon as your child starts to learn to walk they don't be happy in these things much longer it confines them and they don't want any more of it. For good reason they want to practice walking and these things don't allow it. Actually doctors says they don't suggest them any longer than that. But if i had to choose i would say a framed Jumparoo i have one for my son and they look to me to be the best entertainment and to last the longer. The only thing i can say neg. about the exerscaucer is i have a boy who i did childcare for actually flip one. He would rock it so hard it would move across the room and after a while he got pretty strong and actually turned it over. If you use one and it has feet i would always use them when you leave the room. Good luck
We got the Baby Einstein one becuase it is kind of both an Exersaucer and you can jump in it. We like it but I can't say my son LOVED it.
My son LOVES the Rainforest Jumparoo by fisher Price. He's 11 months old and still is using it. It adjusts to his height so he can use it for a while and he loves the animals that hang down and the sounds it makes. It is on the pricey side, but I got mine on Craigslist for half of what it would have cost new.
