I have been giving my children Advil and this is also what their doctor prescribed. It also seems to work better than Tylenol ever did, as in cuts through the fevers a lot faster.
Well with the recall on tylenol and motrin for kids what have you given your child or has been suggested by the doctor? NOw the pharmicist is saying tylenol is hard to get now and so is motrin?
Thank you my daughter is fine now. I did find some new childrens' tylenol. ended up not needing it though. I'm the same spot unless the temp reaches 102 its better for the kid to have the fever. Help kill the badies. When she hit 102.5 is when iwent for my tylenol to find it expired and checking on line most of the tylenols have been recalled. By they time they came back with teh tylenol I had got it down just below 102 so just kept her somewhat cool. Thanks for the answers and suggestions.

Store brand Tylenol otherwise know as acetaminophen and in place of Motrin, Advil or store brand ibuprofen. Any pharmacy, Walgreen's CVS, Target or Walmart would have them in children's strength.
Regarding aspirin - don't do it. Yes we survied but why take the uncessary risk? Use the alternatives and be safe!
I only bring down my kid's fevers at night because I am afraid they could have a febrile seizure and I wouldn't know, but during the day i usually don't bring down the fever at all unless they are extremly uncomfortable/crying or in pain. I've learned throughout the years that when fevers reach 102 degrees what ever infections is causing it can't grow/spread. It was confirmed by my podi too. But to answer your question I still use tylenol chewables, infant concentrated drops and ibuprofin.
If it's a mild fever I wouldn't do much of anything unless my child seems extremely uncomfortable. Fever is actually beneficial and is your body's way of fighting and burning off infections.
If I need to use something, then I use store brand ibuprophin (generic Motrin/Advil) and acetaminophen (generic Tylenol) and they always work great. I always start with the ibuprophin because it works better on a fever - gets it down faster and lasts a bit longer. If your child has a really high fever then check with their doctor to see what they recommend. My daughter's doctor had me alternate ibuprophin and acetaminophen every 3-4 hours (can't remember exactly - you should definitely check with your child's doc first) to get her fever down when it was 104.9.
Another good thing to do when they have a fever is to put them in a slightly warm/lukewarm bath and let them sit in the tub and play while the water cools even more - it's too much of a shock to put them right into a cold bath.
How old is your kid?
Growing up, all my Mom had to give us was aspirin.
We never heard of Reyes syndrome back then, but then it's very rare.
We've never shied away from using aspirin.
What you should give your child is whatever his/her doctor suggests.
I always buy the store brand. We've used Walmart, Target, W
allgreens and CVS, and they've all worked great!
I think we usually use ibuprofen first. If it's just a low grade fever, we either use nothing at all or one dose if they're really miserable. Then we give another dose at least 4 hours later when the fever is returning and they are miserable.
If it's a higher grade fever we will alternate the two meds.
Yep, store brand works for us!
