Hello Ladies:
So I had my yearly appt today and I discussed with my doctor a form of permanent birth control. I have 3 beautiful kids and I now want to get off the monthly birth control and go for something permanent. The doctor recommended Essure. It is permanent in nature, it's a coil that is put into both fallopian tubes. There are also no side effects. Has anyone else had this done? Have you had any side effects?
Thank you!

What can I do next?

My good friend had this done two years ago. She had no side effects, it worked exactly the way it was designed to, and she is totally happy she had it done.

Just in the interest of full-information...

The doctor and the advertising say, "no side effects," but they also fail to mention that IF a pregnancy occurs while having Essure, there is a higher likelihood that it would be ectopic.

I wish our doctors would give us ALL information so we could make more informed decisions.

This website might be helpful to you, as it lists other side effects/issues with Essure.

I think it's till fairly new. I just looked into it recently. Decided against it since it was quite new and I couldn't get past the foreign objects in my body. My OBGYN suggested it too. Yesterday my husband had a vasectomy... ideal!!! Best of luck with your decision.

My bestie had it done earlier in the year. She had it done in the doctor's office and has had no issues with it since. She took one Depo-Provera shot the day it was done and that covered her until the coils had a chance to scar her tubes shut. She says she is so glad she did it!

Okay, looks like NOBODY that has posted has actually had it DONE!

I had it done three years ago. SUPER easy recovery. NO SIDE EFFECTS! :)

I HIGHLY SUGGEST ESSURE!

The "foreign object" is TINY. Better than a BABY coming out!

This question gets asked WEEKLY, do a seach to see more responses. :)

I had the procedure done in my Dr's office 3 1/2 years ago. The procedure went great no unexpected side effects (I was told there would be light bleeding and cramping). I went in after 3 months to have the confirmation test done, my tubes were blocked and everything has been fine ever since. I have not had any pregnancy scares either.
When making your decision and doing research, of course there are going to be "horror" stories on the internet but there are also a lot of success stories. Do what is best for you and your body, and try and keep everyone elses opinions, and experiences on the back burner!
PM me if you want any other details of my experience...Good Luck!!!

I think one thing that you REALLY need to ask is the complication rate vs. "side effects". This is the first that I have ever heard of this procedure/option (and this area is sort of a specialty of mine, lol).

I, personally, would most likely opt for a tubal ligation if a vasectomy is not an option (which, just FYI has an extremely low complication rate & is FAR less intrusive).

Just fyi! Good luck w/ your decision! I know it's a difficult one to make.

I thought about this and did some research but decided against it, after reading some of the horror stories I came across. I tend to be a pessimist though and always look to the bad.

My husband cannot get a vasectomy due to some health issues he already has (I did the research for him and agree it is not right for him). Unfortunately I can no longer do the pill, so I am stuck with condoms and timing.

I had the Essure 2yrs ago and unlike most of these bad responses my OBGYN did explain there can be complications and about the part of getting pregnant if you do have this procedure. He made me aware of everything. You also have to look at it like anything else these days. Everything has a warning of complications, side effects, etc. Not only was it much less then having your tubes tide, your husband having a vasectomy, but the recovery time was nothing compared to those 2 procedures. I am extremely happy I decided on this procedure verses anything else. Ultimately this your body and your decision.

My BFF had it done about a year and a half ago. She went in, had them put in, got up, went to eat sushi with her hubby, came home, milked the 18 goats, laid down for a while cause she was having a bit of cramps, took a little nap, got up, life went on, nothing else happened.

She went back a few weeks/month or two later, and the dye did not get through. She is fully clogged...lol.
