Hi moms! I just started dabbling in using essential oils. I got my first set yesterday (lemon, lavender, peppermint, plague defense, coconut oil and respiratory relief blend) and tried the respiratory relief on my son with asthma before he went to bed and he slept through the night which he never does. It also cleared out my sinuses! So my question is if you use essential oils, what are your favorite blends, "recipes" and uses? I'm also interested in using my old wax warmer to diffuse. I'm currently using doTERRA and Heritage for oils and love both.

What can I do next?

Hooray oil!
*ahem* Sorry.

I won a "Family Physician" set of DoTerra oils in a raffle last Spring, and LOVE them. The ones that never get put back in the box are Lavender, Breathe (a respiratory blend), Oregano, and OnGuard (an immune blend).

I have a four year old who runs faster and jumps higher the more tired he gets. Weird, but...it makes it so that settling down at night can be a REAL challenge. It used to take 45 minutes to help him settle down, with constant forced marches BACK to his bed after he'd snuck out. Now I rub a drop of lavender oil on his neck, if he's looking crazy at bedtime, and he's usually out within about 10 minutes. I don't use it every night, but when we need it...it's awesome.

The Oregano oil is also one of my favorites. We have chased away several colds this winter, using Oregano. I mix 1 drop with about 1/2 tsp. of coconut oil and rub it on the soles of the sicky's feet. The colds, in general, have lasted 2-3 days, and been VERY mild. My husband came home, feeling poorly, from a trip to see his family. When he'd left his Mom's house, every single member of the house hold had been hacking, sneezing and coughing. He put the oil on that night when he got home, and never really got the cold. He did the oil for 3-4 nights, I think, and just kept it at bay.

The Breathe blend saved my bacon (before I knew about the Oregano) when one of my kids had a really bad cold and couldn't breathe at night. I put a few drops into their humidifier, and the child slept through the night SOUNDLY for the first time in days.

Those are just my three favorites. I can't wait to see what else people use their oils for!

I mop my floors with vinegar and water. I add several drops of lemon (10-20) to about 2 gallons of warm water and a cup of vinegar, smells much better than using straight vinegar and the lemon is supposed to act as an antibacterial.

Relaxation: Tangerine blend
Joy: Grapefruit
Celebration: Cinnamon, cloves and spices

I use these in my bathwater and add them to unscented lotions. My favorite in the summer is to add Lemongrass and Peppermint in my lotion. It smells fresh, the lemongrass is a bug repellent and the mint feels cool and tingly.

My go-tos are:
- Eucalyptus oil, in steaming water in sinks or tubs for help breathing/clearing out, rubbed on soles of feet during bed time
- Frankincense & Myrrh rubbed on feed at bed time for maintenance
- Jojoba oil in hair after shower (I find it's better for my hair than coconut)
- Castor oil added to jojoba oil if super dry skin happens
- Almond oil on my son for dry skin patches, he prefers the smoothness and smell

We've used coconut oil for over 10years for everything, it's the bomb. I used to use several (lavender, lemon, grapefruit) for cleaning and laundry and just didn't keep up with it.

We do a variety of things to maintain good health (supplements, good probiotics, chiro adjustments) and do lots of oils for when things come up. We are rarely sick, and times are shortened when we are. Have fun!
