My five year old daughter is getting her tonsils out soon and Im nuts about the whole thing!!! I have already lost one daughter to a series of different things that were never fully explained to me. God just felt that it was her time I guess. Then I have this beautiful healthy girl, five years later I have two miscarriages in a row for no reason and now her tonsils have to come out....Please help!! I am soo beyond scared of the whole thing!! I just cant lose her!! I cant!! She is getting them out at Loyola in chicago and I would like some feedback on that hospital for that reason. Any good/bad experiences...Any doctors from there that anyone would recommand? She has sleep apnea and I was told that I should worry more about that then the tonsils getting removed. Please someone can I have some words of wisdom? calming? Advice?

What can I do next?

J.,

Your daughter will sleep better, eat better, and exercise better (so she will feel better!!) without them... thus, she will be SO much better off. Just think how her immune system will boost... with better sleep, better nourishment, and better excersise. Taking out tonsils and adnoids is not usually a problem, and well worth doing if they are enlarged and causing problems.

Look back at this past weeks posts. There was a similar question from another mom. Several people (including myself) responded with encouragement and suggestions for post surgery. Maybe you can go back and look at my replies to link to the question. I am not sure how that works...

I am sorry for your previous losses; and will send a special pray for your daughter to have an uneventful and easy surgery; and another prayer for calm peaceful thoughts for her Mama.

Best wishes! Keep us posted how she does?

If you haven't already, I would ask to speak with an experienced nurse/practice manager in the doctor's office. Explain your family's history and your apprehension. Ask for a very clear explaination of what to expect.

Best wishes

I am very sorry for your losses. I can only imagine how frightening this is for you. You are looking at this through lenses that most of us don't have.
You are providing your daughter with what she needs at this time and that is good parenting.
As far as the surgery goes, it hurts. That can be controlled with meds and I am sure you will stay in touch with the doctors and take care of any discomfort.
I had the procedure when I was a kid and I did just fine and liked the time off from school.
And fyi, Loyola is a good hospital!

CALM down, having her tonsils and/or adnoids removed is a easy surgery, but yes it is surgery. All 3 of my children had to have their tonsils and adnoids removed due to sleep apnea and the snoring was LOUD. After the surgery they were and still are fine (25, 22, 15) I do understand your fear because of your past experiences, but you also mentioned God so trust that he will take care of her. Your daughter that passed seemed to have had medical issues but the same is not true about this daughter. Try not to let her see your fear. I don't know anything but what I have seen on the commercials about the hospital. So I think that is a good thing because if it were a bad place we would have heard something. Just believe that God will take care of her and you and your fear. I will be praying that all goes well and that you get and remain calm. I am a minister and I believe that God will answer our prayers. God Bless

First, please get some counseling. You have faced something which I have not! I cannot imagine the fear you have in your heart over this. It makes me ill to think about losing a child...EVER! I have had a miscarriage but have not lost a child who took breath and I got to hold in my arms.

I wish that this type of thing were easier but, having her tonsils removed is for her own good.

I don't know anyone at Loyola but I know several at North Shore University Health System and will refer you there if you want me to.

I am so terribly sorry that you are so scared. Please please please go so see someone about your fears.

I could tell you not to worry but I know from experience that is almost impossible. When my son was a year and a half he had a blocked kidney and I thought they were going to have to take one of his kidneys....thank God they didn't but I know how you feel and it's scary. Just try to think positive...you and your family are in my prayers!
